Review: The Collector's Society - Heather Lyons

Review: The Collectors Society - Heather Lyons - October 2014

Have you ever watched the Noah Wyle's films "The Librarian" or the TV shows Once Upon a Time , Once Upon a Wonderland , Grimm or Sleepy Hollow ? That is what The Collectors Society reminded me of. All those rolled into one book and readers do not be dismayed as this is quite a long book but once you get stuck into it , you will enjoy it especially if you are a "real reader" and love books and stories within books and stories - think Inception with a dream inside a dream inside a dream but teenage version and you have The Collectors Society.
This book starts with Alice who has been living in an insane asylum after her last return home from Wonderland. She is now twenty-five years old and has convinced her psychologist that Wonderland was never real. On the day before her release, she is visited by a guy called Von Brunt who tells her that he needs her to go to Wonderland as it is in trouble and Alice and Wonderland will cease to exist forever if she doesn't help him.  She reluctantly agrees and travels with him, into the future where she discovers a group of book characters called "The Collectors Society". It is here with the help of the "Librarian" who keeps them safe collects the catalysts (artifacts) that help keep books alive.
They have a problem though as someone is stealing the catalysts and killing off the characters leaving them to cease existence.  At the society she meets Von Brunt - Sleepy Hollow , Finn aka Huckleberry Fin , Victor - Frankenstein and Mary - The Secret Garden. It also talks about Sara - The Little Princess and S.Todd and Lovett - Sweeny Todd , Janenites - include Anne , Fanny , Mrs Knightley and Susan and last but not least Jack Dixon aka The A.D - Oliver Twist.
This was an awesome read and if you are like me and love your book renditions and fairytales with a twist , then you will feel right at home with The Collectors Society by Heather Lyons.
