About Love, Chocolate and Beer by Violet Duke:
"A new must-read series from Violet Duke." --NY Times & USA Today Bestselling Author Kathleen Brooks
Romance has met its most unlikely match-up...
Luke Bradford is a chocolatier on a mission. After moving his chocolate shop, and newly single life, to the quirky town of Cactus Creek, Luke wants nothing more than to devote all his energy into making his business a success--by taking the romance market by storm. But his grand plans get thrown for a loop when he locks horns with the feisty beer-brewing beauty next door who calls his 'romantic idealism' a load of fairytale bull. Soon, driving the woman sparking nuts becomes another wickedly fun priority he simply can't get enough of.
In his defense, she's addictively easy to incite...and plain impossible to resist.
Beloved local brewmaster Dani Dobson is beyond riled up. It's bad enough the new shop owner in town comes locked and loaded with both a distractingly rugged charm and sexy flashing dimples, but the whole only-in-the-movies variety of romance he's selling--the kind her world has been crushed by before--is really doing a number on her allergy to unrealistic clichés. What's worse, he's created an annoyingly clever ad campaign that dubs 'beer joints' like hers as the "cave where romance goes to hibernate." The nerve of that man.
Combustible chemistry or not, damn it, this means war. The stakes...very likely, her heart.
About Love, Tussles and Takedowns
He's a better fighter
A fighter to the core, Hudson Reyes has collected enough battle scars now to last several lifetimes. But after his combat injuries retire him from the life he wasn't ready to give up, Hudson finds himself spending the carbon copy days of his new career as a Hollywood fight scene and weapons specialist just doing what he knows best: surviving. Until he meets her. The one woman who makes him want to live again. With wounds as deep as his own, she's a scrappy little thing--an angel-faced paradox that comes as a package deal with an offbeat town of admirably protective, but downright nosy folks.
And a wicked roundhouse kick that's become intimately familiar with his head.
...but she has all the weapons.
An antique arms authenticator by day and a self-defense instructor by night, Liana Lin has made a living turning the unthinkable demons of her past into the passions that fuel, and fill, her life. So when the unjustly handsome man she's been unable to stop thinking about literally takes her to the mat with martial arts styles unlike anything she's ever seen--pinning her with a molten hot stare that melts her like a marshmallow trapped between a graham cracker and a chocolate square--Lia flips into no-holds-barred fight mode. Because if one man could find a way to disarm her carefully-built defenses, it'd be him.
Now if only they could stop sparring long enough to find out...

Review: Shattered - Book #2 Alaskan Courage Series - Dani Pettrey - February 2013
I loved the first book in this series so much, that I have decided to embrace the whole Alaskan Courage series and in Book #2 the lost brother returns home but not in the way anyone ever imagined it would be . Reef McKenna is the drifter of the family and has made his living by becoming one of the best circuit athletes and travels all around the world competing. That is until he finds himself caught up in a murder investigation in his home town as his on/off again girlfriend has been killed and Reef is looking like the number #1 suspect. As readers discovered in Book #1 , Piper McKenna is the Nancy Drew of the family and she is desperate to help clear her brother's name and find out who really killed Karli. Turns out though that Karli's life wasn't very clean cut and it definitely points to the fact that anyone could have killed her and a few of them have a reason for wanting her dead and buried. The other thing that the McKenna family has to worry about is Gage McKenna's old girlfriend and mother of his dead son is leading the case against Reef . Will that be against the McKenna's case even more ? Enter Darcy St James, a newspaper reporter who will do anything for the truth - she is hired by Gage to help the family dig up anything that can help with Reef's case for innocence. Meanwhile Detective Landon is torn between loyalties of his job as a cop as the evidence is normally the way to judge a guilty or innocent man and all the evidence points to Reef but his heart lies with Piper McKenna. What will Landon decide to do ? Can he stay partial in this case as the McKenna's will need all the help they can get ?
At first I thought that this story's romance thread would be between Gage and Darcy St James as there was a chemistry sprinkled throughout the pages between the two of them but in Shattered - the love line is between Landon and Piper McKenna. Will the pair of them get their happily-ever-after or will the final ruling of Reef's case pull them apart forever ?
Find out in the second book of Dani Pettrey's awesome Christian Adventure series "Alaskan Courage".

The light from the setting sun glared off the truck door as it opened. The person was in
shadow, but his outline showed a large, tall, imposing frame. Wide shoulders, narrow waist,
full head of hair. I thinned my eyes. Since Red was just a little above hobbit size and balding,
I figured this must be one of his employees, and not one I recognized by silhouette. I lifted my
hand to block the light and try to get a better view. It didn’t help. He kept walking toward me and
was five feet away before I realized who it was. Confident, gorgeous blue eyes held mine. It was the guy. And he was standing in front of
me…about to work on my engine. I had a momentary hot flash and took a deep, steadying breath
to try to calm down.

"Fresh and inventive. . . . the strongly-written mystery component takes center stage.“—BCCB
I went over to the window and pried it open. The frame groaned but with a jerk the window slid up and cool air streamed in. The fresh smell of rain in the night was one of my absolute favorites.
A shadow shifted on the street. I poked my head out. Even in the rain, the hooded stranger waited on the other side, staring at my window. I grabbed my cell phone from the nightstand and the pepper spray from my purse, slipped into my ballet flats and rushed out of the room and down the stairs. Devon appeared in the hall, his eyes bleary. I didn’t stop to explain.
My feet carried me outside where the rain plastered my hair down and soaked through my clothes. The stranger turned the corner as I crossed our front yard.
I pumped my legs. I heard Devon’s steps behind me and his shouts of confusion, but I turned a corner and then another until it appeared that I’d lost him. I stormed into the forest at the edge of our neighborhood, where the stranger had disappeared just moments before.
From up ahead, the sound of twigs breaking kept me on the trail. Devon must have given up or lost sight of me because I didn’t hear him behind me.
Without streetlights, the forest’s darkness was absolute. Rain rattled the leaves, and twigs snapped under my shoes. Shape-shifting while running was difficult and straining, but with Madison’s short legs I’d never catch the guy. Who was he? The killer? And I was alone in a dark forest with him. Maybe not my best plan.
I let the rippling wash over me. Tearing, stretching, twisting, remodeling. My clothes strained and ripped. I stumbled a few times over my lengthening legs but then, with Alec’s body, I gained on the stranger. Wind howled in my ears and for a moment I lost my bearings as he disappeared from view.
Up ahead, something flashed in the blackness like a beacon. He’d turned around to check if I was still following. My breath rasped in my throat as I jumped over a fallen trunk. The forest was cloaked in mist, concealing the outline of the mysterious figure.

Be careful what you wish for... Normally, Aspen Edwards will do anything for her free-spirited best friend, Mischa, but this feels like a bit much. The plan is simple, all Aspen has to do is write down a few affirmations and recite them during the New Moon. But as skeptical as Aspen is, a promise is a promise. So, she whispers each wish to the universe, pondering the possibilities of "what if." Who wouldn't want a promotion at work, a new home, or to become an irresistible sex goddess? But Aspen’s luck doesn't change with the wishes, or the wind. Each of her whispered prayers produces disaster. She gets fired. Her car breaks down. She gets kicked out of her house. And of course there is the crap icing on the cake of doom, falling for flirtatious and sexy, Wes, who sees her as nothing more than his “little sis”. It might not be so bad if his house weren't the only place she had to go. Unbeknownst to her, the universe has a few tricks up its sleeve, and Aspen's bad luck streak might just be putting her right where she needs to be!
Oh hell, this is so not cool, this is going to be torture. All I want to do is touch him. I take
my glass off the table so I have something to do with my hands. What I want to do is trace
his mohawk or the planes of his face with my fingers. All this does is make me even more
aware of him. I mean he’s lying right here on me for God sakes. I feel aches in my body that
aren’t at all appropriate between friends.

I never imagined it could be like this. I couldn’t have dreamed of the way the setting sun paints the nearby river red, lighting the sky on fire. How the breeze makes our seats at the top of the ferris wheel sway. How he pulls me close to him, whispering my name like a prayer, and moves my hair away from my face, brushing his thumb against my lower lip. And how, when he replaces his thumb with his own lips, he tastes of cotton candy, salt, and unspoken promises.
Gypsy Rae Choszer grew up in the valley below Mount Timpanogos where she watched the apricot trees in her backyard bloom every spring. Review: Captivating Bridge - Book #3 Tempest Novel - Michelle Mankin - May 2014
Another amazing and wonderful novel by Michelle Mankin, the Tempest series is one of my favourites and I think I may have found a new fictional boyfriend to add to my list - Warren "War" Jinks. For the first couple of books and even parts of Captivating Bridge , I thought he was just a self-righteous jerk who hated everything and I wanted to scream to him - get over yourself but as I read further into Captivating Bridge it made me fall more for him as I started to get glimpses of what the real "Warren Jinks" was like and like the main character Shaina, I wanted to care for him and make sure he was Ok and he knew that someone did really care for him and that there really are genuine people out there in the world. I found on a personal note, that I really connected more with this book as in a way the situations of the characters - not to the point in the book as I'm not "famous" like they are but other parts reflected highly in my life and I was able to understand the characters on a deeper level. Also the theme of suicide and depression which is touched on the novel is something that I hold closely as it's something that has affected my life.
Moving on to a lighter note, Captivating Bridge tells the story of Warren Jinks aka War who has been living up to his nickname by heading down a path of destruction after he left his band Tempest feeling betrayed and hurt by those who he had cared about - Bryan and Lace who we read about in Book #1 . In Captivating Bridge , Warren meets Shaina who talks him into meeting her as she wants to know the "real" him. Warren sees it as an easy lay but as the story goes along, he discovers that she genuinely cares for him and she starts to break down his walls. When misunderstandings happens between the two of them and Warren's walls go up as quickly as they came down, can Shaina prove to him that she is sorry and that she loves him ? Can she prove to Warren that he is a good guy and that they are perfect for each other ? Will Shaina be the push he needs, to help him forgive the past in order for him to be a different person and be able to move on with the future ?
Find out all this and more in one of the best books I have read for 2014 - "Captivating Bridge" by Michelle Mankin.
