Lindsey Reviews : Pretty Girl 13 - Liz Coley

Pretty Girl 13
Liz Coley
Katherine Tegan Books
2013

This story details the tale of Angie who disappears when she is 13 and then reappears 3 years later. Angie has no memory of her abduction; only recalling the man who kidnaps her whilst she is on a girl guide camping holiday. The rest is a blur. Angie returns to a life but struggles to reconcile herself with the girl she once was. The abduction and her life whilst in captivity is a mystery due to her amnesia. Once Angie begins to reconstruct the events due to several strange incidents, the puzzle is finally pieced together.

There is so much I want to say about this book but part of its beauty lies in its mystery. It deals with an unusual phenomenon which is widely recognised by psychology today. However, I don't want to spoil the plot as, like Angie, the reader is drawn in to the mysterious events which she encounters. I thought the characters were superbly written and portrayed and had a real empathy for Angie and her plight. The author keeps the reader guessing throughout the novel which has so many twists and turns. The plot is so believable and at times can deal with such dark subject matter.

I cannot recommend this book highly enough. It is fantastic and keeps the reader hooked throughout. It really is a rollercoaster of a book and the writing is fast paced and keeps you on tenterhooks throughout. Brilliant!
