Excerpt:
Ama tried to hear. She tried to hear the words spoken by the girl with the honey-brown eyes, who held out her hands to push her back down when she tried to sit up. She tried to hear her own ragged breaths as panic welled inside her. She strained to hear the music that had accompanied and defined every moment of her life. But she heard nothing.
Nothing.
And that’s when Ama knew, absolutely knew, that she wasn’t dead. Because Ama’s mother had always told her that Heaven was made of music. And this strange place was nothing but silence. The quiet was so loud that Ama wondered if sound had ever existed.
She couldn’t even hear herself scream.

Blurb:

Maria De La Torre is a survivor. Her life has not been paved with streets of gold…but with blood and sacrifice. She may have been there for her soul sister in the Trinity Trilogy but this story is about her life. The life she chooses. The same life someone from her past is trying to take away.

Elijah is the last man in the entire world Maria should be with. He’s a dark, gritty, lawless bounty hunter—the exact opposite of the man she loved and lost, the man who gave up everything for her. Only Elijah is not the type of guy to back down. He’s used to getting what he wants and he’s set his sights on the raven-haired seductress.

Time is not on Maria and Elijah’s side. There’s a new threat to the soul sister, one Maria never thought she’d have to face again. And this time, the stakes are life and death.

Maria quickly learns that the things she wants most in this lifetime may just be the things that have the power to destroy her.

Review: Euphoria - Amity Cross

Euphoria (The Thornfield Affair #1)

Review: Euphoria - Book #1 The Thornfield Affair - Amity Cross - October 2016

When I think about my favorite classic novels, one of the top two on my list includes Jane Eyre. Though many people are more Austen favored, I tend to go towards the Bronte sisters. As soon as I saw that Amity Cross had released a series based loosely on the tale of Jane Eyre, I knew I had to read it, and it was going to be moved near the top of my list. While on holiday leave, I decided to catch up on some series that I had meant to read, and Euphoria was on that list. Euphoria starts with us being introduced to Jane Doe - a young girl whose family were killed in a car crash and she was sent to live with an uncle. Jane never knew her last name and became a Doe - a nobody. Making her way up in the world and being an independent, she gets a job at Thornfield which is a family manor turned hotel. It is her job to help bring in the customers and tourists by coming up with ideas to draw them in. One day Jane is out walking when she is nearly hit by a motorcycle on the country road. The guy despite stunning is quite rude, and Jane is taken aback and keeps her strength biting back with her wit. It turns out that the mysterious guy is Mr. Edward Rochester - owner of Thornfield and her new boss. One thing leads to another as fans of the original Jane Eyre will know as Edward and Jane start a secret relationship beginning with banter and eventually leading to more. Euphoria follows the same storyline in a way as Jane Eyre with the meeting of Mr. Rochester's wealthy friends, her fight for his attraction over the gorgeous and rich women that fawn over Edward to the mysterious noises which at this stage Jane thinks are her overactive imagination or the strange housemaid Grace Poole. Euphoria ends on the cliffhanger of Jane leaving as she has a moment of realization that maybe her life is too different from Edward's and that in this case, the pair of them will never be able to work together and love one another the way ones who in love should.
Fans of Jane Eyre will not want to miss The Thornfield Affair series by Amity Cross, starting with Book #1 Euphoria.

Review: Lust is the Thorn - Jen McLaughlin

Lust is the Thorn

Review: Lust is the Thorn - Jen McLaughlin - April 2016

Growing up Thorn McKinney didn't have the greatest of lives as his mom was constantly in and out of jail cells and his family became his best friends Mikey and his little sister Rose Gallagher. Drugs and Alcohol were a common thing in both of their lives until one night, there was a car accident, and they were both wasted. Mikey died that night, and Thorn lived. From that night, Thorn vowed to change his ways and decided to dedicate his life to the Catholic church and become a priest. That way he could save others as he had been and finally one day he might be able to be forgiven for that night. Now years later, Thorn is still at the seminary and though he could graduate and become a priest he still has to take his vows. He just keeps putting them off as he considers himself not ready. One night, he is called as Rose's next of kin. Rose has been attacked. Thorn discovers what Rose has been doing and feels guilty he didn't protect her as he should have been and what he promised to Mikey. With the help of his mentor, Thorn takes Rose to John's lake house and looks after Rose and nurses her back to health. During this time, we readers can see the chemistry building up and sizzling between Rose and Thorn, and we have to wonder if he is doing the right thing by going to the church as a celibate priest. There is a lot of temptation and back and forth happening between Thorn and Rose in their Should I or Shouldn't I situation. As Thorn and the church help Rose get a better job and a better direction in life, we read as Thorn will have to make the biggest decision of his life - to be with Rose and lose all the hard work and study he has done or take his vows and commitment and become the best darn Priest he can be ? Which road will Thorn take when the temptation of Lust is put before him on more occasions than one? Find out in Jen McLaughlin's Lust is the Thorn. A book that I sort-of have a cover crush on, the only thing I'm not too keen on is his mustache.

Desire, distrust, fear, and the pain of the past cloud their minds, even as they work together to identify the danger. Can two strong, determined people conquer the perils to their lives as well as their hearts?
‘Til the Sun Comes Up, book eight in the MacLarens of Fire Mountain Contemporary western romance series, is a full-length novel with an HEA and no cliffhanger.
Excerpt:

“If we do decide to go through with this, I need to be clear. I’m not looking for a relationship. I’ve been down that road once and don’t intend to ever travel it again. Fact is, I haven’t been with a woman more than once in years. Don’t even know the names of most of them. If that makes me sound like a jerk, I guess that’s what I am. But with you…”

Her chest squeezed as she waited for him to continue.

Reaching out, he took her hand. “You have to be certain you can accept me on my terms.”

Skye bit her lip, willing herself to stay calm. “Then I suppose you should be clear as to what they are.”

Dropping her hand, he sat down on the bed, patting the spot beside him.

“I’d rather stand.” Skye clasped her hands in front of her.

He leaned forward, resting his arms on his thighs, catching her gaze with his. “All right. We see each other when we can, when it’s convenient. No expectations, no late night calls, no drama. I’m free to see other women, and you’re free to see other men.”

“No.”

He straightened. “No? If that’s your answer, I’ll walk out now.”

Turning away, she worked to compose herself. She didn’t know why she even considered his demands, except for one thing. She felt the same about all of it, other than one point.

“I’m good with it all…” She hesitated.

“Except?”

“You don’t see other women, and I don’t see other men. It’s non-negotiable for me, Gage. I’m not looking for a relationship, either, but I’m also not looking to feel cheap or used.”

Gage stood, holding a hand toward her. “Skye—”

“Please, let me finish.” She turned away, gathering her thoughts. “I can live with seeing each other when it works for both of us. No drama, no commitment. Easy and infrequent.” She whipped back around, pinning him with a hard stare. “If you need to be with other women, I’m not the person for this kind of arrangement.”

He winced at the description and the terse tone. “What happens if one of us wants to start seeing someone else?”

“A simple phone call should work.” Her voice remained steady. She didn’t know why it hurt to say it out loud.

Gage walked up to her and placed his hands on her shoulders, his voice low and rough. “The last thing I want is to hurt you. You have to know I’m not a good bet. This could last a few nights or much longer. Either way, I don’t want anything permanent, and I want to walk away as friends.”

“I’m a big girl, Gage. I don’t want or need anything more than seeing each other whenever we have time. Is that fair?”

His nostrils flared. Studying her face, he saw no sign she didn’t believe her own words. Dropping his hands from her shoulders, he picked up his hat, settling it on his head.

Her brows drew together. “Are you leaving?”

“It’s best. You need to be sure it’s what you want. Truthfully, so do I.”

She didn’t like it, but knew he was right. “I leave tomorrow.”

“Change your flight to Sunday.” He smiled. “Please. I’d like to see you tomorrow, show you more of the city, take you downtown for dinner.” Stepping closer, he cupped her face in his hands, the kiss slow and warm. Groaning, he stepped away. “Change your flight, Skye.”
