Review: All Your Twisted Secrets - Diana Urban
Review: All Your Twisted Secrets - Diana Urban - March 2020
One of my favorite tropes to
read is when random people get an invitation to a dinner or a party and in this
case a scholarship banquet only to discover it is something else entirely,
something more dark and sinister is at play. Often in these books the
characters are killed one by one, however this one has a twist. Amber and
five of her schoolmates have been sent an invitation to have dinner with the
Mayor when they turn up though things take an evil turn as they learn they are
locked up tight in a room. Sitting on the table along with the food is a
syringe and a note - one must die or everyone will be killed and a bomb starts
ticking. In the room we have Amber, Robbie - the school jock, Diego - a
millionaire inventor, Priya - Amber's best childhood friend, Sasha - the
popular girl and Scott -the bad boy. Each person in the room has a dirty secret
which if it got out they would be ruined. During the book, we have two
storylines running - the present time of watching them try and escape the room
and then blame one another as they crack under pressure and the other is the
storyline leading up to this moment - the past school year. With the time
running out of the bomb, who will crack under pressure and who is in charge of
the room? I have to admit I did not see the twist of this book coming and when
I did, I felt a little disappointed as the ending kind of fizzled out and
thought the revenge plot could have been played out better. It was, however, a
good YA mystery and fans of One of Us is Lying by Karen McManus and Ten by
Gretchen McNeil will enjoy.
