Review: We Were Liars - E. Lockhart

Review: We Were Liars - E.Lockhart - May 2014

Are you looking for a teenage book that will make you think ? Are you in the mood for something quirky ? A book that once you finish, you will be like what have I just read and OMG I did not see that ending coming ? . This book introduces us to the Sinclair Family who are so rich, that they have their own island and though the Sinclair's did not have any sons all the daughters have retained the surname Sinclair and on the island they each have their own houses. This story is about the four Eldest Sinclair Children and their summers that they spent on the island along with Gat who was a Sinclair substitute via his dad remarrying. Each Summer, the four Sinclair children run riot on the island and it's their time , nothing else matters in the world when they are on the island. This book is told from Cadence's POV and talks about her summers that she spent on the island and focuses on the Summer she turned fifteen when tragedy struck. Cadence hoping for a fresh start heads back to the island , but her cousins have changed and something is not right as they are ignoring and being vague when Cadence asks them questions. This gets the reader wondering, what was so bad that happened that Summer that had Cadence missing and being sick and why are her cousins ignoring her ? Without giving the story away, as the ending in this book is most important and vital to the reader as it completes the story and answers all those questions that are swirling aroud the reader's head. I will finish with the fact that I did not see the ending coming and that you will be in for a shock. The ending had me feeling the same way as I did in Dangerous Girls by Abigail Haas and I found this particular book similar to Kate Brian's series Shadowlands.
This book is amazing and should be on everybody's to read list as it is one of those books that one cannot explain but you just know that it is an awesome read.
