VBT# One Little Mistake - Miranda Rijks

Image
Review: One Little Mistake - Miranda Rijks - November 2025 When I saw One Little Mistake come up on offer from Zooloos Book Tours, I jumped at the chance. Miranda Rijks has become one of my favourite thriller writers, and she certainly didn't disappoint with this twisty tale of friendship, betrayal, and consequences. The story kicks off at a hen's party where a group of friends are living their best lives, but the next day everything changes. Kate suddenly finds herself completely iced out by her closest friends, and she has no idea why. The truth is devastating: her secret friendship spreadsheet—where she rated each friend out of 100—has gone viral. Now everyone knows exactly what she really thinks of them. What follows is a gripping exploration of what happens when your private thoughts become public knowledge. Kate begs for forgiveness, but her friends refuse to grant it. As her perfect life spirals out of control, she discovers a painful truth: sometimes the people closes...

Review: I Know You Saw Her - Ann Girdharry - May 2025 ⭐ ARC provided by Zooloos Book Tours ⭐ Ann Girdharry delivers a compelling and atmospheric psychological thriller in I Know You Saw Her , a novel brimming with secrets, twisted relationships, and a haunting past that refuses to stay buried. Five years ago, Fiona's older sister Amy disappeared without a trace, shattering her world. In the years that followed, Fiona not only lost her sister but her parents as well, leaving her completely alone. With the fifth anniversary of Amy’s disappearance approaching, Fiona is determined to uncover the truth. Under a false name, she rents a room in the very house Amy was staying in before she vanished — and that’s where things start to unravel. The house’s owner, a grieving woman who lost her daughter at a young age, is immediately a suspect— especially since Amy bore a striking resemblance to her late child. Add to the mix Harry, the owner's nephew, whose father also disappeared on t...

Review: One by One - Freida McFadden

Review: One by One - Freida McFadden - July 2020 I have always been a big fan of thrillers and near the end of last year, this author Freida McFadden started to pop up on my radar and I found myself enjoying her psychological thrillers except of course for the one book that was a DNF for me. I was looking forward to One by One as it features one of my favourite thriller tropes - yes, it's been done a thousand times in books and movies, but the whole revenge-based killing off - one by one, is a trope that I have loved especially when the author does it right which is what Freida did in her title "One by One". The book starts with three couples heading off to the woods for a week's holiday in a cute Air BNB Cabin. It is a breakaway that everyone longs for, especially Claire and Jack. The thing though is Claire and Jack aren't married Claire is married to Jack's best friend Noah. For the past few months, Claire and Noah's marriage has started to disintegra...

Review: Thieves Gambit - Book #1 - Kayvion Lewis - September 2023 As this weekend was the long weekend celebrating Matariki - the Maori New Year and also the first day for me to help out with the special election booth at the library, I figured it was going to be quiet and it was with only a couple of inquiries. This made it the perfect reading time as well, so I didn't sit there twiddling my thumbs. I took along with me Thieves Gambit, which was one I had received from HarperCollins NZ and it was so good. I have always enjoyed heist and spy novels and Thieves Gambit by Kayvion Lewis was another one added to my list of enjoyable reads. I now can't wait for Book #2 Heist Royale. Thieves Gambit first introduces us to the mother/daughter team of The Quests who are one of North America's best thieving families.  Ross though wants a normal life, so she starts planning but instead of a clean break on their last job, her mum gets kidnapped. The kidnappers want one billion dollars ...

This is due to her past as when she was young, she started seeing a little girl and hallucinating. The little girl was like a devil on her shoulders giving her bad advice. Now years later, Amy has to spend the night shift on Ward D, and to make matters worse, her old friend Jade happens to be a patient and she's doing the shift with her ex-boyfriend Cam. As the night goes on though, strange things are happening people are disappearing and even some are dying.
