Review: You're Next - Kylie Schachte - July 2020 This book was one that I asked our library to buy and imagine my surprise seeing the release date as the 7th July which is my birthday, that's pretty cool. When I saw that this was a James Patterson presents and that the main girl was a teen detective, that captured my attention. I love books that have teen detectives like modern-day Nancy Drew and Veronica Mars. In this book, we meet Flora Calhoun who seems to have a habit of finding dead bodies and stumbling upon mysteries. She also is a bisexual character, I was a little worried about this as I am not normally one for reading books where the characters are in an F/F or M/M relationship but I did like how her sexual orientation was touched on but not to be made the main issue of the novel. In this book, it starts with Flora's ex-girlfriend Ava calling her to say she needs her - Flora arrives just in time to see Ava get shot three times and hold her before she died. Ava'...

Review: When We Were Lost - Kevin Wignall

Review: When We Were Lost - Kevin Wignall - June 2019 As a fan of James Patterson's novels, I have been finding myself enjoying some of the authors that he has had in his publishing line of "James Patterson Presents".  Though so many people talk badly about James Patterson, I am a big fan and I love how he is giving so many new and unknown authors a chance to make a name for themselves in the published world of YA novels, etc. The second thing that attracted me to this book was that it had a survival/ Lost feel to it. Kids lost in the jungle? A plane crash and a potential killer among them? Sign me up. This book starts with us being introduced to one of our main male leads Tom. He is someone who knows death as he lost both of his parents in an accident and now lives with the philosophy of everything happens for a reason and the fact that we all die sometimes and of course the Butterfly Effect which will be spoken about quite a few times throughout the story. Tom is relu...

Review: Hunting Prince Dracula - Book #2 Stalking Jack the Ripper Series - Kerri Maniscalco - September 2017 You know how some books take you that little bit longer to read and you find yourself persevering with them and pushing yourself through as you want to finish but is finding it hard. For me that was Hunting Prince Dracula as I don't normally read historical fiction but it had intrigued me and after reading Stalking Jack the Ripper I wanted to try and complete the series. This book starts off with Audrey Rose Wadsworth and Thomas Cresswell on the train to the Forensics school in Romania. They are traveling the Orient Express and a murder happens onboard, this part reminded me of the Agatha Christie novel. A guy has been staked on the train as if he was a vampire. When the pair arrive in Romania, they hear rumors that Vlad the Impaler aka Dracula has risen and is hunting down the townspeople. Audrey still on edge after the whole Jack the Ripper case is a tad sh...

Review: Stalking Jack the Ripper - Book #1 Stalking Jack the Ripper Series - Kerri Maniscalco - September 2016 Have you ever read a book and couldn't get into it the first time and then months, maybe even years later given it another go and found yourself enjoying it? For me, one of those books was Stalking Jack the Ripper. I tried back in March 2017 but couldn't finish it. Now with the release of Book # 3, I decided to give it another go. This time around I enjoyed it with all the twists and turns. The book starts with young Audrey working with her Uncle Jonathan in his morgue and attending his medical lessons out in public disguised as a boy. It is in the Morgue and classroom that Audrey meets Thomas. Despite their clashes over their knowledge and theories, the pair strike up an unusual relationship. During this time, Jack the Ripper aka The Leather Apron or Whitechapel Murderer is stalking the streets and hunting down females. What happens when ...
