Review: The Eleven - #She Died Famous Universe - Kyle Rutkin - March 2024 Would you sell your soul to become famous, despite the consequences and warnings? This is the third book I have read from Kyle Rutkin and each one has a similar theme running through the books and is all connected through the eyes being closed with a gold/yellow blindfold and explores the dark world of Hollywood and the lengths people will go to get somewhere in the world, even if it means giving up all their soul and the things, they love the most. At the end of Influencer Island by Kyle Rutkin, we read more about a secret society named The Eleven. In The Eleven, we go further deeper into the society and we first meet Conner a journalist who is determined to find out about this society, and its references and grab the story of his lifetime. Especially since he knows it is connected to a recent celebrity disappearance. Conner tracks down screenwriter Kohl Reynolds who happens to be dying and Kohl is ready to ...

Review: Divine Rivals - Rebecca Ross

Review: Divine Rivals - Book #1 Letters of Enchantment - Rebecca Ross - April 2023 When this series popped onto Instagram, it caught my attention as everyone was reading it. I then added the book to my wishlist and it was brought for me as an Instagram book gift. In this last part of 2023 and into 2024, I have started to get back into reading a bit of fantasy though of course it now has its terminology of "romantasy". Divine Rivals is historical meets fantasy but in a way could be set in a modern world but for me, it still held a strong historical feel to the book. The book starts with Iris's brother Forrest heading off to serve in the war to fight for Eden - one of the gods and goddesses who have just awoken after being in slumber for hundreds of years. The war is on between Eden and Dacre and is a War of the Gods but it's the humans who are suffering and fighting for their lives. Iris is working as a journalist alongside Roman and when tragedy strikes Iris's fa...

Review: The Lies I Tell - Julie Clark

Review: The Lies I Tell - Julie Clark - June 2022 This book has been on my reading wishlist since its release a couple of years ago. I finally found it on the Library Libby App and gave it a read and I enjoyed it. I also have a major #covercrush on this book, isn't it amazing and TDF? In The Lies I Tell we meet two females Kat and Meg. Meg is a con artist, drifter, and a bit of a Robin Hood-type female as she targets men who deserve it and then gives money and items to those who have been wronged. Kat was a reporter and ten years ago when the story broke about Cory Dempsey - a principal arrested and exposed for sex with his students, she was on the team gathering facts. That was until she went to meet Cory's friend Nate and then tragedy happened and Kat left the journalism world and began writing fluff pieces and Meg disappeared into the wilderness. Now Ten Years later, Meg has popped back into the same town as Kat, and this time she is determined to finally expose Meg and ge...

Review: The Honeymoon - Kate Gray - July 2023 Two couples have decided to go to Bali for their Honeymoons and one night, they meet up and have dinner together. They learn that they don't live too far from each other in the UK and all goes well. That was until the night ended and they went their separate ways, One of the couples Erin and Jamie went out to the cliffs to get a bit frisky, and the other ended up back in their hotel - Sophia and Mark. That night, we read as Erin and Jamie end up killing a man, and the next day, they leave to go home. Erin is on edge and Jamie wants things to go back to normal. During the book, we also read about Sophia and Mark and learn that Sophia is a journalist who recently wrote crime but left her job after an expose blew up and caused her to be disgraced and threatened. When she learns about the death in Bali at their hotel, she contacts Erin to get her views about it. Jamie is worried that Erin might crack, so he warns Sophia to stay away from he...

Review: 6 Ripley Avenue - Noelle Holten

Image
Review: 6 Ripley Avenue - Noelle Holten - September 2022 This one caught my attention with not only the cover, but also the whole tagline of "One House, Eight Killers, and No Witnesses". 6 Ripley Avenue is home to a new halfway house where the prisoners have been sent to be rehabilitated. The residents aren't very happy especially Helen who led the charge to try and get the house shut down and on her side is Sloane - a newspaper journalist who also is against criminals being allowed out after her sister was murdered. This book is based on the murder of one of the residents Danny Wallace who was a bad seed. Everyone is pleased he is gone, but no one is owning up to his murder and the rest of the criminals are on edge as are they all in danger? Jeanette, the probation officer in charge of Ripley Avenue is about to get a wake-up call of her own. She was under the impression that the house was running well and that she had a great team that she could rely on, but it looks li...

Review: Conviction - Julia Dahl

Review: Conviction - Book #3 Rebekah Roberts - Julia Dahl - March 2017 I recently saw this book advertised on Social Media and it sounded interesting, so I hopped on the Libby app hoping as it was an older book, my library would have an e-copy and they did. One of the things I love reading about is books set within "the innocence project" as it speaks to me as someone who loves true crime, just how many innocent people are sentenced to prison and have to spend most of their lives there before anyone will even listen to them and then that's only if they are lucky that the right person will pick up their case or see their letter as the project receives thousands of letters a day and some of those people are guilty, but you get some that truly are innocent. In Conviction, we meet reporter Rebekah Roberts who has recently won a journalism fellowship and reported about a mass shooting at a Hasidic Jew temple for the American Voice. She is busy working freelance for the New Y...
