Review: Sugar Shack - Lucy Knisley

| Review: Sugar Shack - Book #3 Peapod Farm Series - Lucy Knisley - August 2025 Okay, I’ll admit it—I’m officially obsessed with Peapod Farm. There’s something so cozy and real about Jen’s journey that makes me want to grab a hot chocolate, wrap myself in a blanket, and move to the countryside immediately. This latest installment brings winter to the farm, and with it, a whole new layer of emotions, snowflakes, and sister drama. Jen is finally starting to feel like she belongs. After months of trying to figure out her place in her new blended family, Reese calls her “sister”—and it’s the sweetest moment ever. I literally teared up. But of course, nothing is ever that simple. Andy, Reese’s actual sister, isn’t exactly thrilled. And honestly? I get it. Jen’s not trying to replace anyone, but feelings are messy, especially when you’re still figuring out who you are and where you fit. What I love most about this book is how real Jen feels. She’s not perfect—she’s awkward, she overthinks...

Review: Like a Mother - Mina Hardy

Review: Like a Mother - Mina Hardy - February 2024 After being made redundant, I found myself reaching for thrillers instead of my usual romance novels—somehow happy endings felt too distant during this uncertain chapter of my life. That's when I discovered Like a Mother by Mina Hardy (a pen name for Megan Hart), and it became exactly the kind of gripping distraction I needed. The story follows Sarah, who thought she knew her husband Adam completely until his sudden death shattered not just her heart, but her entire understanding of their life together. As a newly widowed single mother expecting their second child, Sarah faces an immediate crisis when Adam's business partners reveal he changed his will, leaving her financially strapped. Even worse, they're questioning her guardianship of daughter Ellie and want to adopt her unborn baby, claiming it was Adam's dying wish. Enter Adam's previously unknown mother, offering Sarah what seems like salvation—a fresh star...

Review: Recommended for You - Laura Silverman

Review: Recommended For You - Laura Silverman - September 2020 Trawling through the new YA and Children's books at the library, I came across Recommended for You by Laura Silverman and I was instantly drawn in with the bookish cover and it also looked like a cutesy story as it was in our teen section of the library. However, after reading this book, I felt it would have been more suited in the children's fiction section as the characters though she was about 15-16 as she had to be old enough to work and drive a car, she seemed quite immature and naive and the tone of this book had a Tween feel to it and more suitable for ages 11-15 years. The book starts with Shoshanna who works at a bookshop in the local mall called Once Upon a Time. The bookshop is her safe place, her refuge, and her home away from home. The setting on this book is Christmas and since it's set in the states - it is Winter and we have our mall madness with Christmas shopping. Lately, home life for Shosh...

Title: Confessions of a Jewish Skeptic Author: Sarahbeth Caplin Genre: Spiritual Memoir Release Date: May 20, 2016 For the first time since converting to Christianity several years ago, I was forced to reconsider what Judaism meant to me after my failed attempt at seminary, and after my father died on the eve of Rosh Hashanah. This is not a story about finding God, but about what happens when doubt threatens to break the faith of your own choosing - and how one seeker chooses to confront questions that don't have easy answers, if any answers at all. I feel safer by living on the fringes of faith, where grace and humility are clearer to me than ever before. For now, this is the safest place to be. It's messy, it's sloppy, it's anything but organized. But I'm learning to make it a home. If I look back on my life from a psychologist’s perspective, it makes sense why Christianity appealed to me s...
