Review: Love and Roses - Suzanne D. Williams - January 2014 You know those moments when you're scrolling through your Kindle, a cuppa going cold beside you, and you stumble across a book you'd completely forgotten was sitting there waiting for you? That was me with Love and Roses by Suzanne D Williams , a little hidden gem tucked away in my library, and I am so glad I clicked on it that day! I went into this one completely blind, no blurb refresh, no re-reading the synopsis, just diving straight in  and honestly, sometimes that's the very best way to read a book. What unfolded was such a sweet second-chance romance, and I mean sweet in the most wholesome, heartwarming way. We meet Ian, a man who believed he was happily married, until the devastating discovery that his wife had actually hired a hitman to have him killed. Thankfully, that hitman turned out to be an undercover cop , talk about dodging a bullet, quite literally! Ian does what so many of us do when life falls ...

Review: A Murder for Miss Hortense - Book #1 Miss Hortense Series - Mel Pennant - June 2025 Listen, I thought I knew cozy mysteries. I've devoured every Miss Marple adventure until I could practically recite them in my sleep, and I've got a soft spot for any sleuth who solves crimes between afternoon tea and garden pruning. But Miss Hortense? She's something else entirely, and I'm absolutely here for it. Meet Miss Hortense: retired nurse, cake-baking extraordinaire, and possibly the most observant woman in Birmingham's quiet suburb of Bigglesweigh. This isn't your typical English village mystery, though. Miss Hortense emigrated from Jamaica in 1960, and her sharp eye for detail extends far beyond spotting murderers—she can tell if her turmeric's been watered down before her first bite of beef patty. That's the kind of authenticity that had me grinning from page one. What absolutely hooked me was how Pennant weaves Miss Hortense's investigative prowes...

Review: Take For Granted - Modern Love Stories Book #3.5 - Daisy Prescott - February 2015 Scrolling through my Kindle, I was in the mood for a quick read after the book that I tried before this one ended up being a DNF. I have always enjoyed Daisy Prescott's books and they are easy to read. The other thing I love about her books is that they crossover characters from other books. In Take for Granted, we meet married couple Jo and Ben Grant who were originally featured in her book Geoducks is for Lovers. Every year Jo has ended up sick during their annual winter holidays and this year as it is just her and Ben, she is determined to have a great time. So before her trip, she stocks up on Vitamin C, etc. The pair arrive in Aspen for their fun holiday. Jo takes a trip to the sex shop to find some things to spice up her marriage, will this help their rel...
