VBT# I Will Find You - Jessica Huntley

Image
Review: I Will Find You - Jessica Huntley - July 2025 Jessica Huntley has done it again. After being thoroughly captivated by her previous work "Room 21," I couldn't resist diving into "I Will Find You" – and honestly, that cover alone would have sold me. There's something about a well-designed book cover that hints at the dark secrets waiting inside, and Huntley delivers on that promise. The premise immediately hooked me: Bonnie and her husband Stefan embarking on a treacherous hike through the Swiss Alps, retracing the steps of a journey that claimed her brother Chris's life exactly one year prior. The emotional weight of Bonnie's quest to find her brother's body, coupled with her dependence on Stefan – the only witness to Chris's death – creates an tension that had me turning pages well past my bedtime. What starts as a grief-fueled mission quickly transforms into something far more sinister when a snowstorm forces the couple to seek she...

#VBT Review - The Reunion - Sonya Bateman

Review: The Reunion - Sonya Bateman - July 2025 Y'all, let me tell you about a book that had me clutching my coffee mug and triple-checking my door locks! This psychological thriller serves up everything I crave in a good revenge story – think "I Know What You Did Last Summer" meets your worst high school reunion nightmare. Our protagonist Desi was once part of the untouchable crew known as The Westgate Eight – you know the type, those impossibly cool kids who ruled the hallways like teenage royalty. But fifteen years ago, their perfect little world shattered on prom night when Flynn Bartell turned up dead and their queen bee Modesty vanished into thin air. Talk about a graduation gift nobody wanted! Here's where it gets juicy: every year since, the surviving members have been meeting up at this swanky resort (run by a former classmate, because apparently nobody can escape high school), basically having the world's most morbid book club meeting. But this year ma...

Review: Want - Chelle Bliss

Review: Want - Book #2 Men of Inked: Sinners Series - Chelle Bliss - March 2025 After a string of DNF reads, Want by Chelle Bliss swooped in like a warm hug on a cold day—and what a perfect choice it turned out to be. As someone who’s read and enjoyed a few books from the original Gallo Brothers series, I was beyond excited to dive into this spin-off. The moment I saw it featured Santino (Tino) and Betty’s extended family, I was all in. The story kicks off with Brax, who’s working behind the bar when Iris walks in, having just been stood up on a blind date. Cue the snowstorm of the century—classic Chicago vibes—and a very generous offer from Brax’s sister Tate to let Iris crash in the apartment above her tattoo shop. What starts as a night of awkward but cute proximity soon becomes the beginning of something real between Brax and Iris. Iris, however, comes with baggage. Her ex not only broke her heart, but also left her with a dangerous mess—he owes some very bad people a lot of mon...

Review: The Crash - Freida McFadden

Image
Review: The Crash - Freida McFadden - January 2025 Freida McFadden is well known for her fast-paced, twist-filled psychological thrillers, often packed with shocking revelations and morally gray characters. While this book delivers some of those elements, I found it to be a more subdued thriller compared to her usual work. The setup is gripping, but the execution left me wanting more. The story follows Tegan, a heavily pregnant woman fleeing from a past she’d rather leave behind. With nowhere else to go, she sets out to find refuge with her brother, hoping for a fresh start. But fate intervenes when she is caught in a blizzard and stranded in the middle of nowhere. When a seemingly kind couple rescues her, offering her warmth and shelter, she believes she’s been granted a stroke of luck. However, that illusion quickly shatters as she realizes something is very wrong. Her "safe haven" becomes a chilling trap, and her battle for survival—both for herself and her unborn child—be...

Review: Whiteout - Various Black Authors

Review: Whiteout - Various Black Authors - November 2022 This YA book captured my attention after reading a review for this one and Blackout. Whiteout is written by a group of six black authors famous for YA novels. Each author has been given a specific character to write about. The book starts with Stevie and Sola having relationship problems as Stevie is very scientifically and logically minded whereas Sola is very romance-based. Now Sola has given Stevie an ultimatum which means that Stevie must bring her great romantic gesture forward. Stevie messages her friends to help her bring together their parts in the gesture from Lego flowers to billboards. Unfortunately what happens though is that a massive snowstorm has hit and now the roads are blocked, some of the team are trapped in the mall and this is one Christmas that our characters aren't going to forget. Whiteout is such a great diverse romance as not only contains multicultural characters but also a strong LGBTQA+ represen...
