#VBT Review - The Reunion - Sonya Bateman

Review: The Reunion - Sonya Bateman - July 2025 Y'all, let me tell you about a book that had me clutching my coffee mug and triple-checking my door locks! This psychological thriller serves up everything I crave in a good revenge story – think "I Know What You Did Last Summer" meets your worst high school reunion nightmare. Our protagonist Desi was once part of the untouchable crew known as The Westgate Eight – you know the type, those impossibly cool kids who ruled the hallways like teenage royalty. But fifteen years ago, their perfect little world shattered on prom night when Flynn Bartell turned up dead and their queen bee Modesty vanished into thin air. Talk about a graduation gift nobody wanted! Here's where it gets juicy: every year since, the surviving members have been meeting up at this swanky resort (run by a former classmate, because apparently nobody can escape high school), basically having the world's most morbid book club meeting. But this year ma...

Review: The Right Equation - Tracy Krimmer

Review: The Right Equation - Tracy Krimmer - October 2014 Scrolling through my Kindle in search of a quick read, I stumbled upon a delightful short story by Tracy Krimmer. It centers around Penny, who is reluctantly gearing up for her 20th high school reunion. Dressed as Albert Einstein, she steps into the party hoping for more than just a nostalgic trip down memory lane—she’s hoping to reconnect with her high school crush, Will. Penny’s excitement builds when she discovers that Will has harbored similar feelings for her all these years. Sparks fly, and for a moment, it feels like a fairy-tale reunion. But things take a turn when the lights suddenly go out, and when they come back on, Will’s friends are laughing. The painful memories of Penny’s high school days, filled with humiliation at the hands of the popular crowd, come rushing back. The story cleverly weaves themes of self-worth, redemption, and the courage to confront the past. Penny is a relatable protagonist, and readers wi...

Review: Second Time's The Charm - Stephanie Rose

Review: Second Time's The Charm - Stephanie Rose - May 2024 I have had a couple of months without my e-reader as it decided to die on me and then thank god for partners,  as my partner surprised me with a brand new Kindle Paperwhite for my birthday which meant I could get back to reading on my ebook reader. YAY. Stephanie Rose's book caught my attention as I am a sucker for second-chance romances as my personal story with my partner is just that. The book starts twenty years ago when our main characters were 17/18 years old and off to college/university. They have been high school sweethearts and dating right through the four years. Everything was great until Jesse dropped a big bombshell on Emily and shattered her heart into tiny pieces. The pair never saw each other or spoke a word again till twenty years later when Emily and Sabrina decide to attend their high school 20th reunion and run into Jesse and Caden. Caden was Sabrina's friend with benefits right through high sc...

Review: Good Little Liars - Sarah Clutton

Review: Good Little Liars - Sarah Clutton - October 2019 Celebrating a school reunion is supposed to be a happy time but after twenty-five years of secrets, a mystery that was covered up is about to be solved. Emma has been cleaning out the cottage that she is living in and has found an old photograph of Tessa naked. Tessa was found dead twenty-five years ago and it was ruled a suicide, but now Emma thinks she was murdered and in an email to Marlee she tells her, her thoughts. However instead of just hitting reply to Marlee, she ends up hitting reply all and opens a can of worms as others reply about that day and what their thoughts are about it. Only three people though know the truth - Harriet, Jonathan, and Marlee. Can they keep Emma quiet or will the truth eventually be revealed twenty-five years later? This was a good little thriller and easy to read and kept my interest, I also liked how all the characters even side ones managed to be connected in a little web from Clementin...

Review: The Class Reunion - N.L Hinkens

Review: The Class Reunion - N.L Hinkens - November 2020 I saw this book advertised on a bookstagram post / social media post and it looked fascinating especially since he ticked both of my favourite boxes of tropes in books. Two of the ones on my list are reunion novels and the second are revenge stories where one by one someone suffers for their past actions. I grabbed this book from Kindle Unlimited as I hadn't read any of the authors before. This book starts with Heather receiving a phone call from an old classmate that not only has she not yet RSVP to their school reunion but also one of their friends and classmates Lindsey has died. It looks like an accident, but Heather isn't convinced and so she turns up to help investigate. What happens though when at their reunion, the classmates received a bunch of flowers with a note - You deserve to die. This freaks the class out but is someone just playing a prank on them? Heather returns to her normal life as a PI in Hollywood b...
