Review: Wicked Dreams - Lisa Jackson and Nancy Bush - December 2022 Lately, I have been on a bit of a mystery/ suspense kick and I needed this as the last three books I had tried which were a mix of romance/ suspense have been DNFS and blah. I was excited for this book as I hadn't read a Lisa Jackson in years, as about 10 years ago now I went on a Lisa Jackson kick after just discovering her mysteries and she became one of my authors-to-read. Then, of course, you know how it goes in the world of bookworms with new authors popping up every day. I was on the fence about this book though as it was good enough to keep persevering yet at times, I wanted to give up as I felt like I slogged my way through this one. It was a slow-burn read. The book starts with Declan Bancroft Snr confronted by Charlie and then two bodies turn up dead amongst others as there are a lot of funerals in this book. We learn that there is an island in Deception Bay where a colony of females lived under the watc...

Review: The Wake - Vikki Patis - October 2020 What would you like to be remembered for when you die? This book starts with disaster and blood and then we learn that our main character Richard has just passed away and now his funeral/wake is coming up and it looks like there is more than one person who wanted or is relieved that Richard is dead. Richard wasn't a nice person, he was someone who wanted respect and didn't care who he hurt, and also, he was all for instant gratification. This book is told from several characters' POVs. We have James - the funeral celebrant who hated Richard for ruining his chances of love from Tom and Peter, Fiona - Richard's current wife and previous mistress, Eleanor - Richard's current mistress, Felix, and Toby - his sons from Fiona, Skye - his daughter from his first marriage to Fearne, Lexi - Felix's fiancé. This book talks about the day Skye's sister Saffy went missing on the beach and the racist/ prejudice that Richard h...

Review: Pretty Bones - Book #1 Bones - Erin Lee - February 2019 Two things drove me to read this book, the first of course is that it is written by one of my favorites and the second one was the cool cover. Pretty Bones is a story told from the perspective of Marlow Harris. She has grown up living in a funeral home as it is has been in her family for generations Harris and Sons and when her parents retire, as her family had no other children - she is supposed to take it on but in a way, Marlow wants something different as people only see her two ways "the creepy death girl" and the "girl with the weird bones" as Marlow also has a terminal disease where her bones are brittle and the slightest thing could break them. People with this disease are known as "glass children". I have to admit one thing why I love Erin Lee's books is that often things she writes, I can relate to my life growing up. My mum suffered from brittle bones as part of her disease w...
