Review: Lumberjanes Book #5 - Various Contributors

Review: Lumberjanes - Book #5 - Various Contributors - June 2026 There's a particular kind of comfort in opening a Lumberjanes book  it's the comic equivalent of walking into your childhood bedroom and finding everything exactly where you left it, except somehow even more delightful than you remembered. Volume 5 (collecting issues #49–60) is no exception, and honestly, it might be one of my favorite helpings of camp chaos yet. April, Jo, Mal, Molly, and Ripley are back, and as always, the world refuses to let them have a normal week. Between navigating underground labyrinths, getting swept up in a board game with actual magical stakes, and accidentally waking up an ancient Greek goddess (you know, typical Tuesday stuff), this volume packs in enough adventure for three ordinary book series. And yet nothing ever feels rushed or overstuffed ,  it all unfolds with that easy, breathless energy the series has perfected, where the absurd and the heartfelt sit side by side without m...

Review: Lumberjanes Book #4 - Various Contributors

Review: Lumberjanes - Book #4 - Various Contributors - April  2026 There are some series that you enjoy, and then there are those series that feel like coming home and for me, Lumberjanes is absolutely one of those. In fact, I can safely say that this is my favourite graphic novel series ever! So, you can imagine how excited I was when I was lucky enough to receive a copy from Boom! Studios. Lumberjanes – Book #4 collects issues #37–48 and takes us straight back to the wonderfully weird and magical world of the Roanoke Cabin scouts. Just when you think things might finally calm down for our favourite campers, summer decides to throw even more chaos their way. From family visits and mysterious voices in the woods to strange time loops and, of course, a jackalope hunt with consequences nobody could have predicted, there is never a dull moment at camp. One of the things I love most about Lumberjanes is that, underneath all the magical mayhem, mythical creatures and completely bizarre ...

Review: Golden Hills - Jennifer Weiner

Review: Golden Hills - Jennifer Weiner - June 2023 I'll be honest – I've been in one of those reading slumps that every book lover dreads. You know the feeling: picking up book after book, only to set them down after a few pages, nothing quite clicking. So when I spotted Jennifer Weiner's "Golden Hills" as an Amazon Original Short Story, it felt like exactly what I needed: something quick, digestible, and from an author I trust to deliver emotional depth without requiring a massive time commitment. What I got was so much more than a slump-buster. "Golden Hills" centers on Ida Berkowitz, a senatorial candidate whose seemingly assured victory gets complicated when her past resurfaces in the form of Marissa Schuyler – her former camp bunkmate and the keeper of a decades-old secret. Weiner masterfully captures that stomach-dropping moment when your carefully constructed adult life collides with the messy realities of who you used to be. Ida and Marissa...

Review: Two Sides to Every Murder - Danielle Valentine

Review: Two Sides to Every Murder - Danielle Valentine -June 2024 Seventeen years ago, the town was a quiet one with a summer camp that had people flocking to - that was until it became a sight on a horror tourist map.  One night seventeen years ago, there were two pregnancies and three murders. One woman was framed for the murders and so she fled the state with her baby Reagan. The other woman who was the camp director Miranda Edwards left that night with her daughter Olivia and closed the camp that had been in her family name for years.  Now with the anniversary of the deaths coming up and the potential of the camp reopening, two girls for two different reasons are determined to discover the truth about what happened that fateful night. One is determined to discover the truth of who her real father is and the other one is determined to clear her mother's name as she knows that her mother couldn't possibly be a murderer and the truth lies with someone known as M. Edwards. T...

Review: Wildfire - Hannah Grace

Review: Wildfire - Book #2 Maple Hills Series - Hannah Grace - October 2023 Have you ever read a series that you have been nervous about? One that you put off for a while as you were scared to read it? That was me with Wildfire as I loved Icebreaker - 5 stars and was in two minds with this one as I didn't want to be disappointed. I finally got around to reading it and though it wasn't as great storywise for me compared to Icebreaker, Russ on the other hand was way better as a book boyfriend and is now on my list compared to Nate. In the first book, we saw glimpses of Russ and he came across as a bad boy character but in Wildfire OMG he was shy, adorable, and such a genuine guy. I loved him to bits and now I am torn between being a Team Russ and a Team Henry as I fell for Henry in Icebreaker and can't wait for his book Daydream - I did love the scene with Henry's butt in the air when Russ pops home unexpectedly. Back to Wildfire, Russ ends up having a one-night stand wit...

Review: Last Time I Lied - Riley Sager

Review: The Last Time I Lied - Riley Sager - July 2018 Have you ever gone back to a book a second time around and found yourself enjoying it the second time? For me, that was Riley Sager's The Last Time I Lied. I tried it initially in August 2019 and at that time I couldn't get into it and rated it 2 stars which is my DNF score. However, in the last year, I got back into Riley Sager's books and decided to make it my mission to read his entire backlist and this one and his latest were the only two left on my list. I still have the new one on my library hold list. This time around, I managed to finish The Last Time I Lied and it was a good read and left us with an OMFG twist at the very end that Riley Sager is famous for. Those twists and surprises we don't see coming.  The novel is split into two timelines - past ( 15 years ago) and present time.  Fifteen years ago Emma attended Camp Nightingale and one night three of her cabin mates left Dogwood and never returned, th...
