Review: The Thing About Scorpions - Book #1 The Scorpions - Tiffany Nicole Smith - November 2013 You know how it is with Kindle scrolling – one minute you're browsing new releases, the next you've somehow time-traveled back to 2013 and stumbled upon a forgotten gem. That's exactly what happened when I discovered The Thing About Scorpions by Tiffany Nicole Smith, and honestly? Best accidental find in ages. This indie YA thriller centers on half-sisters Autumn and Cicely, Irish twins born just eleven months apart, but they couldn't be more different. The story opens with them as children, part of a friend group that holds elaborate funerals for dead animals Autumn finds – quirky kid behavior that gradually reveals something much darker lurking beneath. As the sisters grow older, Autumn's true nature emerges. She thrives on being the center of attention, delights in others' pain, and manipulates their friends with calculated threats and mind games. When their fr...

Review: Dead Letters - Sheila Lowe

Review: Dead Letters - Book #8 Forensic Handwriting Mysteries - Sheila Lowe - June 2021 This book had captured me by the title and the blurb. The other thing that drew me in was the Forensic Handwriting side of things as I am big on Crime and I geek out on things like personality tests and deciphering people/ profiling and all from their handwriting. The other thing that drew me to this book was that the main character Monica was on an archaeological dig in Egypt. Dead Letters starts with Monica in Egypt and meeting hottie Colin Vine who is a bit like an evil Indiana Jones-type character mixed with the slimy bugger from The Mummy - Benny. He is older than Monica and she is swept by his charm. The book moves forward swiftly and back home, Monica's dad went to his high school reunion and that ended up deadly. The book then jumps to Claudia Rose who is Monica's Aunt and her dad’s sister. Claudia starts to worry as she can't get a hold of Monica and so she does some digging of ...

Review: Grace and Serenity - Annalisa Crawford - July 2020 As soon as I heard about this book, I read the blurb and knew I would enjoy it. The other thing that caught my eye was the release date of the book as July 7th is my birthday. The book starts  off with our main character Grace falling pregnant in her senior year and the father of the baby - a 19 year old guy she met at a party Neil acting like she trapped him and then he calls her names and brands her a liar. He then walks out the door and leaves. Grace then tells her parents and thinking it's early , they go to the doctors to see what options they have and imagine their shock when they learn that Grace only has four months of her pregnancy left which means she has to go through having the baby. In Grace's mind, she calls the baby Serenity aka Ren/Wren. Neil comes crawling back and offers to marry Grace and provide for her and the baby. All is good until he develops a dark side and Grace is soon stuck in this awful cycl...

Review: Brooklyn Street Meet Wall Street - James Richardson

Review: Brooklyn Street Meet Wall Street - James Jimmy Richardson - October 2016 Every now and again, a book will impress you, and for me, this was one. Brooklyn Street Meet Wall Street by James Richardson was terrific and quite powerful/inspirational. Without sounding racist, as some of my favorite authors are black like TD Jakes, ReShonda Tate Billingsley, and JJ McAvoy. I have often found black authors hard to read as they use a lot of foul languages and their slang.  However, this was a refreshing read and coming from an unknown author too. In this book we meet Josh Robinson who though he grew up in the ghetto life, he always wanted something better for himself and aimed to prove he was not just another black kid from the lower class. He didn't want to fall into the crowd of drug lords or gang life like his best friend. What I did like was that he still held respect with his friend despite the choices. Josh could still hold his own. This book...
