We first had a  coming of age novel for girls and now for the flip side , one for the male readers out there , brought to you by author Bob Brink we have his novel "Breaking Out". Review: Breaking Out - Bob Brink - June 2010 After reading Practice Cake by Dalya Moon , it was interesting to read Breaking out by Bib Brink and recieve a male's POV. Set in the 1950's in America - a society that was still in the old-school type of thinking , the years before the free-spirited of love and passion hit in the 60's we meet teenager Britt . Unlike his mates who are talking about hard-on's , sex and girls , he hasn't yet reached the level of feeling alright to talk about it . Britt has grown up in an environment where he has been described as emotionally sensitive and naive and now he is about to discover just how innocent he is as he reaches into the stage of awkwardness, self-consciouness and most of all confusion. Britt tries hard to hide his feelings until one ...

Looking for a nice light-hearted novel , one that shows us that sometimes what we believe is the best thing for us ,doesn't always turn out that way ? Review: Practice Cake - Dalya Moon - October 2011 Meet Maddie Bird , one day a Checkout Operator asking customers "paper or plastic?" and the next day working as a Bakery Assistant at Angelo's. What started off as a new career move ended up being a whole lot of firsts for Maddie.  The first is Drew , her co-worker - he is hot, handsome and can bake . Even though Maddie has a boyfriend already called Parker , she can't help but feel drawn to Drew and starts to wonder whether it is possible to have a love triangle like they do in the movies - think Edward, Bella and Jacob or Peeta, Katniss and Gale.  We read as Maddie struggles to come up with the right decisions regarding her love life with advice coming from her best friend Dave ( who's a girl). Have you read the Mythos Academy books ? Or wanting to start the series ? Here's Book 0.5 - First Frost , a prequel novella by Jennifer Estep. Review: First Frost - Book#0.5 Mythos Academy Series - Jennifer Estep-July  2011 Have you been following the Mythos Academy series by Jennifer Estep ,author of the popular series Elemental Assassin ? If you have been reading my reviews, you would know that I have and have read Books#1 - 3 and now of course the prequel Book #0.5 . Personally for me , I think that if you haven't read the series then this is a great book to start you as I felt a bit disappointed reading this last as throughout Books #1-3 her mother's death and what happened prior Gwen attending Mythos academy plays a huge part. I think if I had read it the other way around, my thoughts would have been different and I would have enjoyed it more. In First Frost , we finally discover more about the "Paige" incident and the finding out of Gwen's mother's...

Looking for a contemporary urban Christian novel to read ? Review: Stand By Me - Book #1 SouledOut Series - Neta Jackson- March 2012 From the author of the YadaYada Prayer Group comes a new series SouledOut , I have to say personally I was a little disappointed in this book as I loved the YadaYada series and was looking forward to her new series. In Stand by Me , we meet two main women - On the left of the cover we have Avis and on the right we have Kat. The women are complete opposite , but it may just be that the statement of opposites attracting that will ring true in Stand By Me.  Avis is celebrating her sixth wedding anniversary with her second husband Peter but things are not going to go to plan as her youngest daughter Rochelle turns up wanting Avis and Peter once again to bail her out. Peter has had enough of it and decides to put his foot down as he tells Avis that she can't keep bailing her daughter out .  After this decision, it puts a huge strain on Avis's marri...

Review: Abandon - Meg Cabot

Are you a fan of Meg Cabot's books ? Read and loved her ChickLit series , her mystery and now of course her supernatural series like The Mediator , Vampire Series and now of course her Underworld series with today's post being Book #1 Review: Abandon - Underworld Series #1 - Meg Cabot -April 2011 Are you a fan of the Greek Mythology ? Read and loved P.C Cast's Goddess Summoning series or how about Rick Riordan;s Percy Jackson novels ? For myself, I have always been interested in Greek Mythology and especially love the books that recall the myths and legends of the Gods in contemporary world like the series I have just finished by Jennifer Estep - Mythos Academy. From the creator of many series , most popular though her Princess Diaries comes a new spin of the tale of Persephone and Hades. A tale that has been spun into a darkly reimagined novel.  In Abandon , we meet Pierce Oliveria , she is the only daughter of an Oil Tycoon and odd things have happened since she was a li...

Review: The Art of The Mass Effect Universe - Casey Hudson and Derek Watts

Review: The Art of the Mass Effect Universe - Casey Hudson and Derek Watts - February 2012 This review is going to be a little different than any review I have done before as the main point of the book is the Art, the wonderful graphics. As someone who isn't of the gaming world , I have no prior knowledge of Mass effect #1 and #2 , I knew of course that their had to be those prior as of course with the release of Mass Effect #3. I know that you have to get achievements and that one of those achievements is for Commander Shepard to have a romantic interest , fling as it maybe, to destroy the Geth and to work alongside the Aquarians. For me , I was introduced to Mass Effect #3 by ways of watching the guy known as "B" , play Mass Effect #3 whilst I sit there and watch in between reading my books or should I say the plan was to read my books while he played but I was captivated and drawn into the game as I watched "B" recieve the achievements and then of course p...

Review: The Girl in the Steel Capped Boots - Loretta Hill

Image
Today's book is another good ol' Australian outback novel , one of the most common jobs in Australia is mining and working out in the mines and Loretta Hill has brought us a novel all about a female's insight to life in Pilbara and living in a dongar ( for those who don't know what a dongar is , it's like a shipping container but where they sleep). Review: The Girl in the Steel-Capped Boots - Loretta Hill - January 2012 Wow , where to begin but to say I LOVED this book, it's funny I never used to be too much of an Australian Outback type writer but after reading North Star by Karly Lane, I became hooked -so I blame it on Karly, but then if it wasn't for Karly and all the wonderful Australian novels that she promotes on her site , I wouldn't have met Loretta and heard about her new novel "The Girl in the Steel-Capped Boots". The Girl in the Steel-Capped Boots introduces us to Lena Todd , a newly graduate with an Engineering degree. When Lena - ...
