Review: The Family - Marissa Kennerson - October 2014 Scrolling through my Kindle, I came across a random book called The Family by Marissa Kennerson. It was a book that has been sitting on my Kindle since December 2015. Nine years later, I got around to reading it and it was one of those books that I enjoyed. It also seemed to be quite fitting as this week, I had read several cult fictions. The Family is a cult fiction based around a group called The Family, they live in the outskirts of Costa Rica - there are 183 of them and their leader is Adam known as Father. He has just announced that he will be taking a new wife and that new wife is Twig who has just celebrated her birthday. Twig should feel special but she is struggling to transfer feelings of parent to lover. During this time, Twig's mother is starting to step up and thinks now is the time to protect her daughter especially when Twig has an accident and is knocked out. During this event, Twig starts to have memories of l...

Review: Lock the Doors - Vincent Ralph

Review: Lock the Doors - Vincent Ralph - March 2022 On the lookout for a good YA thriller ? I have found 2023 for me has definitely been "year of the thrillers" as my genres have been more in this category than others this year. I had previously read Vincent Ralph's book 14 Ways to Die and enjoyed it , so when I saw that he had written a new one Lock the Doors, I wanted to read it. I also have to admit as I was reading this title, I had Riley Sager's book Lock Every Door in my mind which was another title I enjoyed. In Lock the Doors, we meet Tom who has just moved into a new house with his family. His mum has remarried and Tom is moving in with his stepfather Jay and stepsister Nia. Tom is also viewed as sensitive and filled with quirks. One of the things he notices on the bedroom doors is locks . The thing though is that they are designed to lock people in , not keep people out. Why are the locks this way ? Alice is a new student at Tom's school and been giv...

Review: Liar's Beach - Katie Cotugno

Review: Liar's Beach - Katie Cotugno - May 2023 This book had been on my Amazon wishlist and I belong to an Instagram group where you buy the person's birthday it is a book. This was my present from @what_sarahs_read. I had been looking forward to this YA Thriller as it was said to be a modern take on Agatha Christie's novel The Mysterious Affair at Styles which I have now to read on my Kindle as it was only 39c on Amazon Ebook- what a score. Liar's Beach is told from the male perspective of Michael Linden which was also a new take for me as I tend to read books that have the female as the lead character unless, of course, it's the Alex Cross series. Linden is on scholarship at his school and is friends with Jay. Jay invites him to his house in a setting like Martha's Vineyard for summer vacation. Looking forward to the break, Linden agrees as he even has the chance and opportunity to hook up with Jay's sister Eliza. All goes well, he even runs into an o...
