Review: The Girl That Got Away - Marin Montgomery

Review: The Girl That Got Away - Marin Montgomery - February 2018

One of the things that I love with my Kindle is Kindle Unlimited as it gives me the chance to read and discover new authors whose books I am on the fence about. They are the ones I want to read, but it's like are they good enough to spend that money on as they possibly could be DNFs and I am a one-time reader when it comes to my books. I had read one of Marin's books previously and enjoyed it, so I grabbed The Girl That Got Away. This book also captured my attention as it contains another of my favorite tropes in a thriller - missing children and then the age-old tale of two went in and only one came back storylines. In this book, it starts with two best friends Avery and Callie who are fourteen years old. Every Summer before school starts for the new year, they camp in a tent in Avery's front yard. This year though, Avery knows it will be the last as Callie  is changing and acting more mature than Avery, she has also been very secretive and different this past year. Avery can feel her drifting away. During the evening, while the girls are sleeping a man breaks in and goes straight for Callie . Avery chases after him and ends up being kidnapped as well. She manages to get away, but Callie is still missing and Avery can't remember a thing. Who kidnapped the girls and why? This was another book where I felt that the reason for the kidnapping and then towards the ending, the book got quite muddied as so many things were happening and lots of tangents. If you want a good thriller, then Marin Montgomery is for you. I would advise though that this be another one that you either check out on KU or from the library unless you are an avid Marin Montgomery fan - then go ahead and purchase your copy.
