Review: The Other Sister - Book #2 Family Secrets - Donna Hill - June 2020 You know how sometimes you end up reading a book completely by accident? That's exactly what happened with The Other Sister by Donna Hill – my first read of 2026! I was scrolling through my Kindle looking for another book with the same title, but when that one turned into a DNF, I just stayed on the search results page and clicked on Donna Hill's version instead. Best accidental click ever! Even though this is Book #2 in a series, you can absolutely read it as a standalone,  I had no trouble jumping right in. The story opens with Kimberly, who's just had her entire world turned upside down. Imagine discovering that your parents are actually your grandparents, your brother is really your father, and you're half Black when you've spent your whole life as a white Southern belle in high society. Talk about an identity crisis! What makes things even more complicated is Kimberly's husband, w...

Review: King of Evanston - JL Campbell

Review: King of Evanston - Book #3 King of the Castle Series - JL Campbell - December 2019 This particular series has been on my Kindle for a couple of years and finally, after reading Book #3, I have finished the series. It's taken me a while and yes, I did read it slightly out of order but the good thing with this series is as long as you read Book #1 first, the others can be read out of order or as standalones, though there are some parts the crossover into other books. Years ago, one of the main guys of the Castle - Khali found a group of boys from all over Chicago and he saw potential in them and mentored them. In a way, they all became his sons and formed a brotherhood. When Khali was shot, he called them back to have their seat at the Castle and return it to order and the legal way of business as some dodgy work had been happening. One of those members holds the area of Evanston. His name is Shaz and he is a lawyer that helps immigrants with whatever they need. In some cases...

Review: If Only You - Chloe Liese

Review: If Only You - Book #6 Bergman Brother/Sisters Novel - Chloe Liese - April 2023 If there is one author who I always find represents the disability sector in such an amazing light, it is Chloe Liese. This author does an amazing job as she often writes one of her characters with a disability or illness and you just can't help but fall for that character and feel what they are going through. As someone who grew up in a family where Autism is a genetic trait as my mum had it, my grandad had it and now my two siblings have it as well as my two nephews. I have never been diagnosed but growing up with it being quite a strong link, I definitely can say that I have a few minor traits of being one of the neurodivergent. I have found it awkward to make friends and connect with people which is why I have lots of acquaintances but very few close friends. I also can't handle loud noises and I am not a driver myself as I feel overwhelmed and get very anxious with everything happening...

Review: Mickey Chambers Shakes It Up - Charish Reid

Review: Mickey Chambers Shakes It Up - Charish Reid - June 2023 I tried to make June a month of reading my print books, but something I have discovered is that the print books I have had sitting on my shelf are well boring and so thank god for ebooks and my Kindle as I get to have amazing titles like this one. Mickey Chambers Shakes it Up was such a good read as we meet Mickey who teaches at the local university English classes as an adjunct professor. However, with more teachers coming in, her class load this summer is very light which means that she needs to pick up another job. Especially since the price of her thyroid medication is rising. It's times like this that I am glad that I live in New Zealand as we do not have the same problem as the US when it comes to medication costs as America. Mickey picks up a job bartending at a local bar owned by Diego Acosta. Diego has decided to go back to University. What happens though when Diego discovers that his teacher happens to be t...
