Review: The Infatuation Calculation - Book #6 Chemistry Lessons - Susannah Nix - May 2021 One of my favorite things to read is STEM romance or what I prefer to call it is Geek Chic Lit, where the main characters are a little quirky and have an academic background. Mia studied pure mathematics at University and now has finished her degree, of course, though jobs are scarce and you have like 300+ people going for one position. A bit like the job market these days as I went for an interview recently and they had 300 people apply and interviewed their top 6 candidates I have heard from people who have been looking everywhere for jobs and finding it difficult. Mia decides to look outside of the city and comes across a teaching one-year contract for Maths at Bowman University in Crowder, Texas.  She applies and gets the job and moves down from LA to the small town. It is not where she wants to be and is grateful it's only for a year. That is until she meets her landlord Birdie and her ...

Review : Dating and Other Theories - Susannah Nix

Review: Dating and Other Theories - Book #2 Chemistry Lessons - Susannah Nix - September 2017 This particular series is one I have almost finished and enjoyed as each book connects to one of the members of a knitting circle. Each female is also part of the STEM community and eventually finds love. In Dating and Other Theories, we meet Esther who is an actual rocket scientist (this book was originally called Intermediate Thermodynamics) and she has one of those annoying next-door neighbors Jonathan who is a scriptwriter. When Esther's friend finds herself inching back to her ex, Esther steps in with an arrangement for Jonathan - she will help him with his movie script in return for three dates with her best friend. Jonathan reluctantly agrees, and we see sparks flying between Esther and Jonathan - rather than her friend who does eventually find her love with Esther's work colleague. I have to admit, part of Esther's character is frustrated but as we learned from her backgr...

Review: The Love Code - Susannah Nix

Review: The Love Code - Book #1 Chemistry Lessons Series - Susannah Nix - June 2017 As a reader who identifies as a bit geeky and quirky, I love the fact that STEM romances are becoming a big fan and that it is showing as well that straight people can be awkward, quirky, geeky, and nerdy. As I recall when I attended RT2017 one of the panels I wanted to listen to was Geeks in Literature. I turned up to the panel and all panelists were queer writers and their characters also queer. This part I didn't mind too much but I did find that often in literature back then all the characters that were nerdy, geeky, and quirky were asexual or part of the LGBTQA+ community and I was neither. Hell, even my own Dad thought I was a lesbian because I wasn't out there partying, doing drugs, and dating. Then STEM romance arrived and I finally was among characters that I could relate to. Those females who are a bit bigger than your average model archetype, girls who have glasses and a brain. In The...

Review: The Best Friend Experiment - Book #5 Chemistry Lessons Series - Susannah Nix - June 2020 Growing up Brooke and Dylan were inseparable, except for the one time that Brooke got pregnant and had an abortion - but they were still the best of friends and now Brooke is busy living in LA and working as a Marine Biologist and trying to make her way, except she is always coming second and finding it hard to push her way forward. Her best friend Dylan on the other hand is a model and making money from looking sexy on billboards in his underwear. They haven't caught up for a while and now Dylan is coming to stay and spend time with Brooke. When they were in high school, they kissed and then nothing happened. They just pretended it never happened. The truth is that neither of them ever forgot the kiss and having Dylan come and stay, might be the kick that Brooke needs to reignite a romance with him. The thing though is that after her abortion, her family practically disowned her and if...

Review: The Boyfriend Hypothesis - Susannah Nix

Review: The Boyfriend Hypothesis - Book #3 Chemistry Lessons Series - Susannah Nix - March 2018 As readers will know one of my favorite subgenres in romance novels is STEM romance or what I call my Geek Chic Lit, this is where part of my bookstagram name comes from the "GeekChic" and of course NZ for New Zealand.  Previously this book was called Advanced Physical Chemistry, but the author retitled it with a more romantic chick-lit feel - though to be honest I feel like she did the right thing as STEM romance now due to Ali Hazelwood making it popular has made readers eager to sort out other authors who write similar titles like Susannah Nix. In The Boyfriend Hypothesis, we have Penny Popplestone which I loved her name, it sounded like a wonderful historical and whimsical name. Penny's field of STEM is Chemical engineering, but due to working from home after she followed a failed relationship to LA, she now works for the patent office as an examiner and looking up scien...
