Review: My Carry-Along Rhyming Bible - Tommy Nelson Kids - June 2024 "My Carry-Along Rhyming Bible" is a delightful addition to any toddler's library, offering a vibrant and engaging introduction to timeless Bible stories. Crafted with the safety of little ones in mind, this board book is not only durable but also irresistibly chewable for those curious mouths always seeking something to gnaw on. Within its pages, young readers will find a collection of 12 beloved Bible narratives, each retold in charming rhyme. From the awe-inspiring tale of creation to the courageous saga of Daniel and the lions' den, these stories are presented in a format that is both accessible and entertaining for the youngest of audiences. Simple prayers encourage children to express gratitude for God's love and care, fostering a sense of connection and reverence from an early age. The inclusion...

Review: The Family - Marissa Kennerson

Review: The Family - Marissa Kennerson - October 2014 Scrolling through my Kindle, I came across a random book called The Family by Marissa Kennerson. It was a book that has been sitting on my Kindle since December 2015. Nine years later, I got around to reading it and it was one of those books that I enjoyed. It also seemed to be quite fitting as this week, I had read several cult fictions. The Family is a cult fiction based around a group called The Family, they live in the outskirts of Costa Rica - there are 183 of them and their leader is Adam known as Father. He has just announced that he will be taking a new wife and that new wife is Twig who has just celebrated her birthday. Twig should feel special but she is struggling to transfer feelings of parent to lover. During this time, Twig's mother is starting to step up and thinks now is the time to protect her daughter especially when Twig has an accident and is knocked out. During this event, Twig starts to have memories of l...

Review: The Follower - Koethi Zan

Review: The Follower - Koethi Zan  -February 2017 You know how sometimes you go into books with certain expectations and it falls flat, that is how I felt with The Follower by Koethi Zan. Before this book, I had read The Never List by Koethi Zan years ago and OMFG it was and still is to this day one of the best thrillers I have read, as I did not see the ending coming. So with that in mind, I was excited to read The Follower by Koethi Zan. Sadly, it didn't quite hit the mark and then to top it off the ending was very ambiguous and left up to the reader to decide what happens. It didn't leave me with any resolution and as I am a high-ending person, this didn't sit right with me either. The book follows Julie who had what she thought was a perfect life, she is then kidnapped by James and his wife Cora - they are religious nuts - more so James than Cora. We read as we hope that one day Julie will be saved and not meet the same fate as the other girls that were in her spot pre...

Review : Woman of God - James Patterson and Maxine Paetro

Review: Woman of God - James Patterson and Maxine Paetro - September 2016 In the last few months, I have tried to make an effort to clear out my print bookshelf as I have had books sitting there for years like this particular one that had been there since 2016. It is funny though as it has been an interesting ride as most have turned out to be DNF but then I have had some that I sit there and think, why did it take me this long to read it? Woman of God was one of those books, I think it was the fact that it is something that neither of these two authors has ever ventured towards. Normally, they work only together on The Women's Murder Club which I continue to enjoy.  Woman of God was such a great read as it was fast-paced like the usual Patterson novel, but at the same time, it mixed romance, adventure, murder, death, and religion in a way that complimented each other. Woman of God starts with our main female character Brooke in Rome with her daughter, they have been invited as t...

Review: After Everything You Did - Stephanie Sowden

Review: After Everything You Did - Stephanie Sowden - April 2022 One of my favourite things I love reading about in my list of tropes is books set around the world of cults and serial killers, as I do love my crime novels. This one sounded fascinating as it also included a couple of my other favourites including amnesia, death row, and sisters that look like they could be identical twins. This book is set in the late '60s to early '70s but feels like it could be set in modern contemporary times except of course for a few parts of the story that are talked about during those times which we know are historical events like the Vietnam war and certain criminal bills that have been passed by the Supreme court and presidents etc. The book starts with a car crash and our main character known as Reeta Doe waking up in a hospital bed handcuffed to the bed. Turns out she is a serial killer that the FBI has been trying to track down and finally she handed herself on a silver platter. H...
