Review: 20 Minutes Around the Bonfire - Daniel Hurst

Review: 20 Minutes Around the Bonfire - Book #7 20 Minutes Series - Daniel Hurst - November 2020 Needing something to read as the year winds down, I have felt in a reading slump this week, I clicked into the 7th book in Daniel Hurst's 20 Minutes Series. This is one of those multi-character novel series where each character is represented by its chapter and the book does not repeat the same character's viewpoint but you may see their paths cross with one another. It also shows you a lot can happen in 20 minutes. It is Guy Fawkes time and everyone is gathered in the park for an amazing fireworks display, but a few are there to settle their scores and plans. The book starts with Bodgan paying off his debt to protect Jelena, then we move to Jelena following him into the park. Robbie - the loan shark admiring his daughter Lucy's performance and asking Will for a picture and autograph, Will mourning the savage loss of his mother who was killed recently by our serial killer who th...

Review: Your Life Has Been Delayed - Michelle I. Mason

Review: Your Life Has Been Delayed - Michelle I. Mason - September 2021 This YA read's story had me intrigued as I love time travel novels.  For those who have watched the TV show Manifest, then you will get the gist of this book as it was very similar in storylines without the characters getting weird powers like in the TV show and unlike the TV show which is 5 years gap - this book is 25 years. The book started with 17-year-old Jenny heading to New York to check out Columbia and then the next thing she knows, her plane is landing but it is now 2020 and when she left for her three hours ago it was the year 1995. Realistically she should be in her late 40's but of course, she is still her 17-year-old self, and she and the rest of the flight who haven't aged now have to find themselves and reintegrate into the present. Jenny's life has changed drastically as she has had her family die, her younger brother is now in his late 30's and married with two children and to...

Top Ten Tuesday : Pet Names

Image
Today's TTT is Pet Names. As someone who lived in a household with a few animals and parents that loved unusual names for pets, I loved this prompt and it also brought back some good memories. (All the animals names below are real) 1. Manuska - Unsure of spelling as I was only 3- 7 years old when we had this dog but it was a female Doberman and her name was Russian and translated into "Mother of Dogs".   2. Ariel - This was my Cat's name when I was five years old as I was a big Little Mermaid fan.   3. Flounder - Yes, I had a fish at five as well and of course you couldn't have Ariel without Flounder.   4.  Sigmund Freud - this was when we first moved to a farm in 1996 and we had one pig and he was named Sigmund Freud and yes, we eventually ate Sigmund Freud. 5. Picasso - our next dog we ended up getting from a puppy was a Belgian Skippedee crossed with a Chihuahua and he was a nice black puppy and very tiny. Mum named him after the famous painter. 6.  Her...

Top Ten Tuesday : Favourite Things in a "Spooky" Book

Today's TTT is a Halloween One, so I have decided to go with my Top Ten Things I love to read about in what's considered "scary books". 1. Stalkers - I love reading novels where the characters are being stalked. 2 . Ghosts - I love reading books where the main character can see or talk to the the dead - think The Mediator by Meg Cabot.   3. Murder - the more gruesome the better as I love my novels vivid. 4.  Mysterious Objects - I love books where an object has some connection to the past e.g The Locket by Stacey Jay.   5. Serial Killers - Love my Serial Killer novels.   6. Missing Persons - Love my mystery novels that include missing persons especially more so if they are missing kids or teens.   7.  Demons -  I love the quirky fun fantasy novels e.g Demon Bound by Chris Cannon, where you just can't help but love the demon characters. 8. Slasher Style - Love those books that are like the Slasher 90's films where one character is about to exact reve...
