VBT# Review: Flirtasaurus - Erin Mallon

Review: Flirtasaurus - Book #1 The Natural History Series - Erin Mallon - July 2020 I wasn't sure what to expect with this book as I expected a couple of laughs as the blurb and taglines sounded funny. What I didn't expect was to find myself hilariously laughing right through the whole book and reading out loud on more than one occasion to my partner - snippets from the book. I loved this book so much as the main characters were both a bit geeky, nerdy and awkward - a bit like myself and the book setting of a museum was amazing as one of my dream jobs is to work in a museum environment - a bit like Te Papa in Wellington would be amazing.  Our main characters even have quirky names as our female lead is Calliope and the male lead is Ralph whom for the first part of the book Calliope thinks his name is Alf. Flirtasaurus is not only about Calliope trying to land her dream job, but also we read as she tries to navigate through her life with new and old frien...

Review: Dark Ballerina : An Enchanted Anthology

Review: Dark Ballerina - An Enchanted Anthology - Various Authors - July 2018 Continuing on my journey to clear my kindle of old titles - Dark Ballerina had captured my attention as I loved books about dancing and also this anthology contained a handful of my favorite authors like Sara Schoen, Erin Lee, etc. This book was amazing and each story read so quickly, I also liked how each story was like a follow-on to the previous story. Rather than having each author write a different story completely, they had written their stories in timeline order and followed suit with one another and built on the previous tales. Sometimes this way of writing doesn't work but this group of authors pulled it off superbly. The book's main location is the Karnes's Ballet Academy and the various stories feature dancers from the school and their tragic journeys they will endure to be the best, however as the girls are about to see and learn, to be the very best - you have to be ruth...

Review: In this Moment - Karen Kingsbury

Review: In this Moment - Book #2 The Baxter Family - Karen Kingsbury - November 2017 After having a long hiatus of not reading Christian fiction, I have felt the call to go back and read it and get back into the genre. Karen Kingsbury was always an author I loved and I felt the need to read her later Baxter family books which had been published after I took a break. Like all her books, each one is powerful and very inspiring. In This Moment we meet one of the Baxter Sons - Luke and his family including his wife Reagan and children. We also meet High School Principal Wendell Quinn. These two will cross paths when Wendell finds himself being sued and Luke as his lawyer. Wendell is a Black High School Principal in a low-income area and is trying to get his school roll up and the students out of trouble. He has exhausted all his options and prayed to God. His last choice is to open a voluntary bible study - he hopes that making it voluntary means that he is within the law...

Review: Sia - Josh Grayson

Review: Sia - Josh Grayson - November 2013 I wasn't sure what to expect as I opened this book, as the readers of my blog and reviews will know that for 2020 - I decided to make it a goal to try and clear some of my old books off my devices as like this particular one - I have books on them from as far back as 2011 ish. It's the age-old case of you get a book and then another and soon every book in your TBR pile has been pushed further and further down the list and eventually forgotten, that is until something sparks and you decide to go back. That was me with Sia and OMG, I don't know what took me so long to read this book as it was amazing. If you are like me and love the amnesia trope then you will love Sia by Josh Grayson. The novel starts with our main character sitting on a park bench and she has no idea who she is - all she has on her is an iPod with the words "Sia's playlist" - so she assumes that means she is "Sia". Wand...

Review: Valentine - Samantha Young

Review: Valentine - Book #5.5 On Dublin Street Series - Samantha Young - February 2015 This past weekend, I haven't felt like doing much. I have felt so blah and had such a lack of energy or enthusiasm - so I did what normally makes me feel better. I spent most of the weekend reading. Scrolling through my Kindle, I came across Valentine by Samantha Young and I knew the On Dublin Street series always makes me feel better and I had slowly been working my way through them. Like most books, I feel better going in blind as that way I don't have a lot of expectations but I knew I would love this one. Turns out I enjoyed Valentine by Samantha Young as it is a combination of the characters' stories over that one Valentine's Night. It was so good to be reunited with the characters and that no matter what ups and downs that they had been going through like a couple of characters' stories especially Cam and Jo’s had me tearing up as did Olivia and Nate’s.   I ...
