Review: Everyone Who Can Forgive Me is Dead - Jenny Hollander - February 2024 There are books you plan to read, and books that find their way to you. This one arrived as a happy accident . a Bookstagram raffle win that led to a small pile of vouchers and the chance to finally pull a wishlist title off the shelf. Everyone Who Can Forgive Me Is Dead by Jenny Hollander was one of those deliberate choices, and I can say with certainty it was the right one. "She walked out alive and covered in blood. What she couldn't walk out with was the truth." The novel centres on Charlie (Charlotte), a woman who, during her journalism studies in college, survived a horrific event that would come to be known as the Scarlett Christmas Massacre a night when her friends were stabbed and she was the one left standing, bloodied and shattered. In the years since, Charlie has done what so many trauma survivors do: she has sealed the memory off, smoothed it into a shape she can live with, and move...

Review: Dark Corners - Book #2 Rachel Krall Series - Megan Goldin - August 2023 We all have those favorite authors who every time they release a book, we know we will read it and enjoy it which is a bonus. For me, one of those authors is Australian author Megan Goldin. After finishing Dark Corners, I now have read all of her books to date - so hurry up Megan, you need to write a new one LOL :). Dark Corners is taken from a quote in the book that you have to watch those dark corners as that's where monsters lie and even more so they can be anywhere. The person who sits next to you on the bus, the person who lives next door to you, or even a family friend. Dark Corners takes Rachel across to the local prison in Florida as her name has come up in an investigation with prisoner Terrence Bailey. He has only had one visitor and now she is missing before she left she was told to find Rachel Krall. Rachel has never heard of either but discovers a voicemail from the missing social media i...

Review: What Lies in the Woods - Kate Alice Marshall - January 2023 This book had been on my reading list for a few weeks and I was captured by the title and the cover. Also, the fact that it talked about children as victims and stopping a serial killer and included podcasts about true crime. All this had my attention as 2023 has been the year of mysteries so far. Twenty-Two years ago, three girls found a dead body that they called Persephone and played a game with the Goddesses. During one of their visits to their secret hideout, Cassidy and Naomi had an argument and Naomi stormed out and sat on the log eating her lunch. That decision though led her to be stabbed and left for dead as her friends hid. The girls told police it was a serial killer they had been searching for and their testimonies got him to put away for life. Now that killer is dead and someone is in town asking questions when Naomi gets a call from Olivia, she heads back, and sooner than later - Pandora's box of w...

Review: Pretty as a Picture - Elizabeth Little - February 2020 This book captured my attention on the Libby Library App as I was scrolling through looking for some good thrillers to read. The other thing that I enjoyed about this book was that two of the characters were neurodivergent which made them a little different and quirky as we have Marissa who is the main female - a movie editor and then over on Kickout Island - we have Billy Lyle - the accused. Pretty as a Picture starts with Marissa and Amy going their separate ways and Marissa being offered a job for director Anton aka Tony Rees. The job makes her sign an 18-page NDA and is a very hush-hush top-secret project out in the middle of nowhere. When she arrives, she learns that the film is based on the true-crime murder of a young girl named Caitlyn who died in the 90s on the island. The crime was unsolved and is currently a cold case. The police on the island only had only one suspect - her friend Billy Lyle, but there was no ...
