Review: Fake - Kylie Scott

Review: Fake - Book #1 West Hollywood Romance Series - Kylie Scott - May 2021 As someone who's been following Kylie Scott's career since her Stage Dive series , I picked up Fake with high expectations. Kylie Scott has always been one of my favorite Australian authors—her ability to craft swoony heroes and relatable heroines consistently delivers the kind of comfort reads I crave after long days. While Fake doesn't break new ground in the fake dating trope, it offers exactly what you'd expect from a Kylie Scott novel: entertainment without complexity. The premise is deliciously familiar. Patrick Walsh, a scandal-plagued A-lister, needs a reputation makeover fast. Enter Norah Peers, a refreshingly ordinary waitress who's sworn off men entirely. Their arrangement? A no-strings fake romance that pays her bills while salvaging his career. Of course, real feelings complicate everything. What I appreciated most about Fake was Norah's authenticity. Kylie Scott excels ...

Review: The Problem With Neighbors - M. Morgan

Review: The Problem With Neighbors - Book #1 The Town of Gentry Series - M.Morgan - February 2025 If you’re after a small-town romance that packs a punch, M. Morgan’s The Problem with Neighbors is everything you need and more. After devouring Morgan’s dark romance These Vicious Games , I was intrigued to see what her take on a lighter, funnier romance would be—and wow, did it deliver! Marcilynn’s fresh start in the quaint town of Gentry is anything but easy. Moving on from a painful betrayal by her ex-fiancé and sister, she’s ready to open her dog grooming business and live life on her own terms. Enter Tucker Dixon, her grumpy but undeniably handsome neighbor who keeps getting in her way (in the best possible way). From the get-go, their chemistry is undeniable, but what starts as a reluctant, fake relationship quickly turns into something much more real. Tucker, a lifelong Gentry resident, likes his quiet, routine-driven life, and the last thing he needs is a messy, sassy neighbor ...

Review: Pretend You're Mine - Lucy Score

Review: Pretend You're Mine - Book #1 Benevolence Series - Lucy Score - October 2015 I have to admit, when it comes to Lucy Score’s books, I’m either all in or completely out. Pretend You’re Mine was definitely one of those hits for me! I was completely hooked from the start, drawn in by characters that were so easy to love and a romance that had all the feels. Harper is on her way to stay with her friend Hannah when she gets lost and finds herself in the middle of a fight, stepping in to defend a woman being beaten. She doesn’t walk away unscathed, but luckily, Luke Garrison is there to help. Luke, a broody and selfless National Guard soldier, takes her in so she can heal. What starts as a simple act of kindness quickly turns into something more. Harper ends up sticking around, finding a job, and—of course—falling hard for Luke. And despite his best efforts to resist, Luke falls right back. But Luke isn’t looking for love. He’s already lost his wife and unborn child, and he ref...

Review: Dating Dr. Dil - Book #1 If Shakespeare was an Auntie - Nisha Sharma - March 2022 To clear my physical bookshelf as I had 412 unread books sitting on it, I have been alternating between my physical books and my ebooks. Dating Dr. Dil was one of the books that had been sitting on my bookshelf and I was looking forward to it as I had read a couple of Desi-American reads and I loved the humor as well as the culture in the books. Kareena aka Rina is the eldest daughter in her family and took after her mother, when her mother died - she felt alone and now she has turned 30 years old and her whole world is crashing. Her grandmother and father have decided to sell her mother's house and move away and her younger sister is getting married the family expects Kareena to do everything for her at the drop of the hat otherwise she is called "selfish" and to top it off they have forgotten her 30th birthday. Kareena now has four months to save up enough and try and find the mone...

Review: The Love Code - Susannah Nix

Review: The Love Code - Book #1 Chemistry Lessons Series - Susannah Nix - June 2017 As a reader who identifies as a bit geeky and quirky, I love the fact that STEM romances are becoming a big fan and that it is showing as well that straight people can be awkward, quirky, geeky, and nerdy. As I recall when I attended RT2017 one of the panels I wanted to listen to was Geeks in Literature. I turned up to the panel and all panelists were queer writers and their characters also queer. This part I didn't mind too much but I did find that often in literature back then all the characters that were nerdy, geeky, and quirky were asexual or part of the LGBTQA+ community and I was neither. Hell, even my own Dad thought I was a lesbian because I wasn't out there partying, doing drugs, and dating. Then STEM romance arrived and I finally was among characters that I could relate to. Those females who are a bit bigger than your average model archetype, girls who have glasses and a brain. In The...

Review: The Right Move - Book #2 Windy City Series - Liz Tomforde - February 2023 After enjoying Book #1 Mile High, I was excited to read Book #2 which was a roomies-to-lovers story. In The Right Move, we meet Ryan Shay who is the twin brother from the love interest in the first book, and Indigo aka Indy who is Ryan's sister's best friend. Indy had her life all planned out from a great job as the head flight attendant for the Hockey team's private plane and a fiancé who she loved. That was until she caught him cheating on her and soon found herself homeless. Ryan's sister cashes in a favour with Ryan and has Indy moving in and becoming Ryan's flatmate. The pair couldn't be more opposite as Ryan is quiet, unemotional, and very OCD clean and Indy is loud, emotional, and messy, or as she describes it organized chaos.  When Ryan ends up as team captain, he is given some flack about it as he is viewed as not a family man which enters - Indy as his fake girlfriend, an...
