Review: I Love Romcoms and I am a Feminist - Corrina Antrobus and Illustrated by Vulga Drawings - August 2024 If you love romantic comedies and identify as a feminist, "I Love Romcoms and I Am a Feminist: A Manifesto in 100 Romcoms" by Corrina Antrobus, with illustrations by Vulga Drawings, is the perfect book for you. As a huge fan of the genre myself, titles like "10 Things I Hate About You," "Head Over Heels," and "She's All That" are my go-tos, so I was thrilled to discover a book that aligns my love for romcoms with my feminist values. This book serves as a fearlessly feminist guide to romantic comedies through the ages, revealing the hidden feminist messages in your favorite movies. It's a refreshing reminder that you can indeed love romcoms and be a feminist! Corrina Antrobus, a film journal...

The Family that Inspired the Conjuring Film: Released in 2013, was the supernatural and horror movie The Conjuring directed by James Wan. The Conjuring franchise is based on stories that Ed and Lorraine Warren experienced as respected paranormal investigators. In 1952, husband and wife Ed and Lorraine decided to turn themselves into professional paranormal investigators and formed a society called The New England Society for Psychic Research, which is still to this day considered to be one of the oldest ghost-hunting groups in New England. The Warrens gained notoriety after their part in The Amityville House hauntings and after that many others hired them for their abilities. One of those families that hired the Warrens was The Perron Family in the early 1970s and this experience and tale was the basis of the first Conjuring film. The year was 1971 and the Perron Family which consisted of husband Roger, wife Carolyn, and their five daughters had found what they thought was t...

What people might not realize and I didn’t know this until recently is that the original Ghostface Killer in the Scream movies was inspired by a real-life serial killer named Danny Rolling. The year was 1989 when Danny Rolling, decided to go on a murder spree and kill eight people including five college students. The press gave Danny Rolling the nickname “The Gainesville Ripper” as his last murder was in Gainesville, but he also killed in Shreveport crossing state lines. During the news reports of the killings, a budding screenwriter named Kevin Williamson was housesitting and he had flicked on the TV to see a special on the murders. This inspired him to create a screenplay which later was picked up by Wes Craven to become the famous Scre...

Putting the Pieces Together to Outwit Jigsaw: Like most horror franchises, the movies are countless and each one comes up with a new plot and leaves viewers thinking, now how would I outwit Jigsaw and survive the film. The Saw Franchise has released nine films and unfortunately, we all know Hollywood isn’t the greatest for titling their movies so we have Saw 1, Saw 2, etc but the numbers are in roman numerals just to give it a little edge. In this piece, I will take a look at the whole franchise and present you with 6 ways to outwit Jigsaw and survive the Saw nightmare. 1)       Cheating never prospers:   No matter how beautiful your intern is or your secretary is or that new guy in your workplace, that is not a reason to cheat on your spouse. Divorce them first, if you want to move on as everyone knows that if you have an affair, one of you is more than likely to slip up and get caught. If watching any movies and reading books is anything to go b...
