Review: A Slayer Comes to Town - Scott Westerfeld - October 2012 Before the world was saturated with vampire TV shows and movies like Twilight, The Vampire Diaries, and True Blood. There was one show that ruled the 90s and early 2000s for Vampires and it even inspired a spin-off called Angel. That TV show which was also made into a movie was Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Scott Westerfeld famous for his Uglies series and science fiction novels, brings a quick read essay from Smart Pop Kernels called A Slayer Comes to Town which is his impression and the impacts of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Scott Westerfeld talks about the differences between alternate worlds vs trespass worlds and how they relate to the hit TV show. An alternate reality is like this reality but things are different, it can be imaginative and fantasy-based. A trespass world though which I hadn't heard this specific term before but does make sense. A trespass world is when you have a world that is the present reality l...

Review: Buffy : The High School Years - Volume #3 - Parental Parasite - Kel McDonald and Yishan Lu - June 2017 Every now and again, there is a graphic novel that captures my attention and a series that I started last year was Buffy: The High School Years. Buffy Summers is in High School, and it's only early days still that she discovered she is this generation's Slayer of everything evil. With her new responsibilities, Buffy is finding it difficult to juggle school, homework, friends and of course slaying bad guys and her Slayer training with Angel.  The school rings her mother and her mum talks with Buffy that she will become more attentive to her needs. This doesn't last long as a new demon is on the loose. It attaches itself to parental figures and hypnotizes them and eventually when it's had enough, kill them and move on to a new one. The parental parasite demon now has its claws into Buffy's mother, and now Buffy must learn how to ...

Review: Buffy the High School Years - Glutton for Punishment - Book #2 - Kel McDonald, Yishan Li and Joss Whedon - November 2016 After enjoying the first Graphic novel in the Buffy the High School Years, I knew I had to read the next one as I was hooked. Back in the day, I was a huge Buffy and Angel fan and loved watching the TV show Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I even have a Willow and Spike Pop Funko. In Glutton for Punishment, Buffy and her friends are told that if they wish to push up their grades in their worst subjects, they can take an extra- curricular course. Buffy doesn't have time for much of any spare time, and her grades could do with some improving especially in History. Buffy and Xander choose to take Home Economics while Willow chooses Art. This class would have been easy and straightforward, but they have a new teacher and things aren't adding up as people are going missing and their new Home Ec teacher seems obsessed with food and swee...

Giles teaches her and supported by her two best friends Willow and Xander. In Freaks and Geeks, we are also introduced to Cordelia who is the school's Queen B. She is the type of person that Buffy would have been friends with in her old school, a life before she discovered that she was the chosen one - Slayer. In Freaks and Geeks, we watch as Buffy trains in the cemetery killing Zombies and Vampires. On the other side of town, there are new Vampires that used to be geeks and they want to be cool. Their mission is to kill the Slayer, and so it begins. Hitting Buffy where it hurts with her new friends, can she get taken down a notch or will Buffy realise that it's mind games and that it ...
