Title: Heinous Author: Yolanda Olson Genre: Extremely Dark & Taboo Romance Release Date: April 15, 2022 BLURB Someone once said that if you talk about the devil, he’s bound to appear. Most would keep silent, hoping that they’d never be found by such a monster, but I prayed for his touch every night. I knew the devil when I was a child and fell in love with him the first time he taught me that I wasn’t as damaged as I was led to believe that I was. He cared for me, helped me learn how to smile, and see the world in a different way even though he didn’t realize that he had done so. But they feared him; hated him. So seventeen years ago, they ripped him away from me. What they didn’t know was that he had already created a monster in his very image. I thought I’d never see him again—I finally resigned myself to that. But then he came back, just like he promised he always would through that smile of his. We’re together again. And now, no one will be able to keep us apart ever...

Review: You Won't Know Her Name - Shanti Hershenson

#VBT - You Won't Know Her Name - Shanti Hershenson - November 2021 I wasn't sure what to expect with this book but as I opened it, it was written in verse format - poetry and it had a lot of trigger warnings as it touched on bullying in various ways from physical and verbal abuse. Reading this book brought back memories of another author who set the bar for writing the edgy taboo topics in poetry format - Ellen Hopkins.  Unlike Ellen's books which are thick and average to be often quite long, You Won't Know Her Name by Shanti Hershenson was a quick read as it only took me 30 mins to read on my lunch break at work today. I also have a major cover crush on this title too. As someone who has bullied me and feels like I never really fit in, I loved this book as also I took to writing and reading like this main character. I also really felt for her as the girl in this book is only eleven going on twelve and that was about the same years as I was bullied as I was a poor gir...

Review: Burned - Ellen Hopkins

Review: Burned- Book #1 Burned Series - Ellen Hopkins -  March 2006 This particular book, I read about 13-15 years ago which would have been sometime between 2006-2009. During this time, I had just discovered Ellen Hopkin's books and had fallen in love with them as she talked and touched on what was normally seen as taboo topics for teenage fiction. Growing up in quite a sheltered life as my parents were Pentecostal Christians and my dad was quite strict, this was my way of discovering the outside world and learning about these sorts of topics. In the past six months, I decided to start clearing some of my older books which included recently one by Ellen Hopkins called Flirtin with the Monster. After reading this it spurred me back into wanting to read her other books again and I have Smoke which is Book #2 in this series on my kindle. So, I hopped onto the Libby library app and came across Burned which is Book #1. Re-reading it now in my 30's compared to my late teens/early ...
