Review: Divine Dicks and Mortal Pricks - Walburga Appleseed

Review: Divine Dicks and Mortal Pricks - Walburga Appleseed - January 2024 You know those cozy evenings when you're curled up with a cuppa, and you want something that's both clever and entertaining? Well, I found exactly that in Walburga Appleseed's delightfully irreverent romp through Greek mythology. This isn't your dusty school textbook version of these ancient tales. Appleseed has taken the familiar stories we all half-remember – you know, the ones where Zeus couldn't keep it in his toga and everyone seemed to be related to everyone else – and flipped them on their head. Finally, someone's asking the questions that should have been asked millennia ago: Was Achilles really that heroic? And why on earth did the Trojan War start over what was essentially a cosmic temper tantrum? What I absolutely loved about this book is how it centers the women who've been lurking in the margins of these stories for ages. The goddesses dealing with their philandering hu...

Review: Detergent - Reid Mockery

Image
Review: Detergent - Reid Mockery - December 2013 Reid Mockery’s *Detergent* is a vibrant and hilarious parody of Veronica Roth’s *Divergent*, and it might just be the most refreshing take on dystopian fiction since its original inception. From the very onset, readers are thrust into the absurd yet amusing world where Beverly Cryer, affectionately dubbed Vurl, must grapple with her upcoming faction choice. The stakes are indeed high: choose wisely or risk being branded a “Detergent” and doomed to a life of laundry duties. Luckily for us, Mockery expertly blends satire with a sprinkle of sharp wit, turning a popular narrative trope upside down. The premise of Vurl’s story plays off the structure and motifs of *Divergent* while introducing a host of over-the-top elements that keep readers laughing from start to finish. The factions range from hilariously mundane to outright bizarre, each representative of different societal quirks that Mockery pokes fun at with an unrelenting zeal. Vurl’s...

Review: Mister Cubic Zirconia - Chassandria Warbanks

Review: Mister Cubic Zirconia - Chassandria Warbanks - June 2018 Remember the Chance Carter issue with how he was supposedly bribing his readers with the prize of diamonds, and then he was also done for #bookstuffing. It was around the time of the #cocky trademark issue. The whole book world was going cray-cray. A few authors published parody novels about the issues . This was one of them and featured Lance Larter, the author. This book is a very quick read, and it is so cringeworthy that it's freaking hilarious. It covers every single trope you could imagine from ghostwriters to single dads to fake fiance's and secret babies not to mention those hot Alpha Bad Boy Trillionaires. If the book world is stressing you out and you want to sit back and laugh your head off and screw your face up at the same time as trust me, it's also so cringy that you will shake your head and go WTF did I just read. In saying that though, if you ever get a chance t...

New Book Release: Squirm - Cari Silverwood

Image
Squirm, an erotic parody by Cari Silverwood A parody of everything great and weird in erotic romance that could be stuffed into one book without it exploding. For some girls, one tentacle isn't enough. Having a bad day isn't good but when Virginia Chaste has a bad day, she gets felt up by a tentacle monster. If it simply has to happen, let it at least be a billionaire and a hot biker. Virginity isn't all it's cracked up to be and her search for the Holy Grail of Erotic Romance, the ten inch purple-headed schlong, may have finally borne fruit. Yeehaw! Playing hide the tentacle has never been so much fun.      Chapter 1 Virginia swept back her long blonde hair and smiled as enticingly as she could at the man on the other side of the chain mesh gate. Her little black dress was fine but the six inch red stilettos were going to kill her any second. He grinned back, anchoring his fingers high in the mesh, leaning on the gate, and exuding eau de bik...

Review; Tousle Me - Lucy V. Morgan

Review: Tousle Me - A New Adult Parody - Lucy V. Morgan - December 2013 This is a really hard review to write as think about all the New Adult books you have read from Beautiful Disaster to Cora Cormack's Losing It to Gabriel's Rapture and Fifty Shades of Grey even Ten Tiny Breaths makes an appearance.  Tousle Me is a Parody which means as you read it , you can't help but think oh my goodness this is bad, really really bad. Not bad in a writing way but bad in content and then when I say bad in content not bad as over-sexed etc but bad as it pokes fun at everything New Adult stands for . It was quite a difficult read to get through as I struggled through the book but I kept reading as it still held my attention and fascination and I wanted to see what books it would poke fun at.  The story of course focuses on a Plain Jane Book Blogger called Cammibelle Hicks who lives with her over-sexed slut flatmate Enid and has a best friend Frat boy cal...
