But when her mother and sisters are murdered by the King’s advisor, Mannix, Clio is left alone and heir to a power she never wanted and doesn’t understand. On the run from Mannix, Clio must race to the very place where Oracles are absolutely forbidden. If she’s found out, she will be sacrificed atop the pyramid of Morek.
Her survival depends on Riece, an enemy warrior whose parents were murdered by an Oracle. Despite the growing feelings between them, Clio knows that if he finds out what she really is, he won’t hesitate to kill her.
But the visions she keeps having of Mannix bringing a barbarian army into Sheehan torture her conscience. She alone has the strength and foresight to stop him, but only if she can embrace her destiny and sacrifice everything.
ADD ON GOODREADS
The slaver forced her on her feet and back to the group. Her mind was a blank. Somehow her legs moved her forward, but Clio didn’t feel connected to them anymore. She trudged through the throng of people who had witnessed and cheered for her sister’s death, and rage slowly filled the emptiness. Rage at these people, at Morek, but most of all, rage at Mannix. He consumed her thoughts.
She would escape, and he would pay for this.
They were led around the pyramid and stopped at its entrance. Warriors stood guard, but these warriors bore no resemblance to the ones in Sheehan. These men truly looked like the warriors of the sun deity. They wore pure gold breastplates over the traditional leather gear of the Sheehan warriors. Glistening cloaks of different colored feathers flapped in the breeze, signaling their rank. But what drew Clio’s attention most were their weapons of black obsidian.
One of the girls up front spoke up. “Is this the way to the temple?”
A warrior answered, “The temple? No, you are to be taken into the pyramid.”
Clio could feel panic stirring in each girl — each girl except the bald one before her. She just looked up at the pyramid’s façade with an expression of fatal resolution, as if she already knew this was to be their final destination.
“No, I think you are mistaken. We are here to become temple maidens.” Fear pitched the girl’s voice higher and higher.
The warrior laughed. “We don’t have temple maidens in Morek, slave. The Priest doesn’t allow women in his Temple. You are here as a sacrifice.” There was no more discussion. One by one the girls were marched into the gaping maw of the pyramid, a path that only had one ending — amongst those rotting bodies at its base.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Seven Things about Me:
1. I graduated from Princeton University in June 2014 with a bunch of people who are a lot smarter than I am.
2. I’m just starting out so I’m not “the best-selling author” of anything, but…
3. I did once stand in line to meet Joss Whedon at a comic book signing when I was in middle school and got him to autograph a Buffy the Vampire Slayer poster for me.
4. I was the flute section leader in my high school’s marching band.
5. Besides YA, some of my favorite reading material comes from Jane Austen and the Preacher comic book series. I also like to spend my free time playing video games like The Last of Us.
6. I have two rescue German Shepherds. One is really sweet and the other thinks he’s a NAVY SEAL and that every cat, skateboarder and motorcyclist is a terrorist.

Review: When We Met - Collection - Various Authors - November 2014
Are you a huge New Adult fan ? Wanting to find a book where all your favourite New Adult authors have stories written ? When We Met features four New Adult authors including one of my all-time favourites Molly McAdams.
When We Met features four stories all about four roommates who all attend Michigan College. We have Indy, Mischa, Courtney and Chloe - each have been duped by guys in the past that have affected who they are and their attitudes today.
In the first story written by AL Jackson - Behind Her Eyes - we have Mischa who sadly was just some college bet to see who could have her first and she was left humilated and shamed, not to mention the guy had been filming and her video went around campus. Now three months later, she has worked back up the courage to return and has one goal in mind - to move on from Hunter and not let another guy get the best of her. Though this plan doesn't seem to be working as she has captured the attention of newcomer and next-door neighbour Darryn Wild. Is Darryn the one to help Mischa move forward with her life ? What will happen though when she starts to open up to him and discovers he saw the video of what happened ? Can she ever trust him or another guy again or is she destined to be ruined and damaged because of one guy's prank ?
In Story #2 by Molly McAdams- Saving Me - we meet roommate Indy who has been dating Dean for two years and is about to be engaged to him, arriving on campus early she goes to surprise him - only to discover he has another girlfriend and this one has an engagement ring from him already and supposedly is carrying his baby. What a nightmare this is for Indy.Desperate and alone , she turns to alcohol and drinking and of course she always drinks too much and can never remember anything of her Saturday nights. Enter Kier - he is her saviour - each Saturday night , he is there to help her back to her dorm etc and has the hopes that one day , she will remember him as each week she forgets that he exists and to her - he is like Deja Vu. Reading Indy's story compared to the other's was more heartbreaking as she has to deal with her whole family hating her and that she was the supposed cause of her brother's death and not just any odd brother but her twin Ian. Is Kier the one to save her as we discover , he too has a past which has turned him into the silent type he is today.
In Story #3 written by Tiffany King - Fouling Out - is roommate Courtney's story which is set in the Sport's bar that she works at. Years ago when Courtney was younger, she had a best guy friend called Dalton. That was until they got older to Junior High and he started to ignore her and they drifted apart. Courtney has never forgiven him and from that day on saw him just as another jerk sports jock as he was the first guy to break her heart. On Campus, Dalton is now the College's star Basketball player and could have any girl he pleases, but of course he want's his old best friend Courtney back and not just in the childhood friendship way anymore. Courtney, though isn't the type to bow down and is definitely going to make Dalton work for her affections. Can Dalton prove to Courtney that he isn't just another dumb jock who sleeps around and that she really is the girl for him ?
Last but not least, we have Story #4 Christina Lee - Beneath Your Layers - In this book we meet roommate #4 Chloe who is doing a fashion degree. In order to pass her degree, she has to do an internship and has been assigned to help design a set. Chloe has been teamed up with Blake - whose Aunt is in charge of the internship programme. This would be good and all, but Chloe has briefly met Blake before and the first impression wasn't exactly sparkling. It was a few months back and she was whistled at and her Blake's comments about how she was not his type etc. This hurt Chloe and for some reason, his words have reverberated and stuck in her mind. Now she has to face him and work with him in order to pass as her livelihood depends on it. All Blake sees when he looks at Chloe for first impressions is a stuck up snob. Can these two work together in order to get the job successfully completed ? What will happen though between the two of them when after spending all that time together, discover that Beneath the Layers - they might possibly be each other's compatible partner ?

I awoke to the sun just beginning to rise, feeling like my body was going to overheat. At the weight of a large arm pressing on top of my stomach, I changed my position and rolled over onto my other side. Colton lay next to me, fast asleep, with his body facing me.
I let my eyes leisurely travel over his face—from his dark brows to the defined outline of his cheekbones and down to the sexy curves of his full lips. It made me recall just how soft and loving his sweet kisses were. Just the slightest touch of those lips held the power to release a field of butterflies in my belly…and my heart.
The conversation with Colton the prior night drowned my thoughts. I had no idea how we had gotten here. We were so close to one another, yet there seemed to be an insurmountable distance between us. I disliked feeling so far away from him. Even worse, I hated that I was the one causing it.
Knowing it was time to go, I slowly leaned my body up and propped forward on my elbows. I gazed at him one last time, wishing things could be different. Then, I leaned over, and with the slightest touch, I gingerly rested my lips against his temple and kissed him. I held back the urge to whisper just how much I loved him, fearing he would hear me and never let me go.

I bring to you today a Guest Post from the author of Zombies in Love. I reviewed Zombies in Love back in Early November 2014 on The Phantom Paragrapher and loved it. I contacted the author to see if she would write a guest post on what made her choose Zombies as the love interest over the more common hottie status Supernaturals like Vampires, Werewolves or Shifters and Today reader's we have her answer :
many people wonder why I decided to write a paranormal romance with a
the male lead. I really like romances in
which the conflict is internal, rather than external-- the hero feels
like he doesn't deserve love, and is slowly but surely proved
wrong. The great thing about paranormal
romance is that you can make this metaphor concrete. The hero can say,
"I'm a monster,"
and be totally right.
zombies? I've read a lot of paranormal
romances with vampires, and werewolves, and so on, and the problem is that at
this point the horror and even the revulsion that I once felt at these monsters
is totally gone. If you read enough
novels where the hero drinks the heroine's blood, that seems like a totally
normal thing to do on a date. I wanted
my readers to take it seriously when my hero, Jack, is feeling repellent and
unlovable, which is why Zombies in Love has some intentionally disgusting
scenes of Jack eating.
But I also
wanted to make clear that he wasn't just a monster. My other criteria for a good romance is that
both hero and heroine must become better people because of each other. Jack is still a monster at the end of the
book, but he's also (I hope) a lovable person who deserves his Happily Ever
PS. Other zombie romances I like include the
movies Warm Bodies and Fido (starring the magnificent Carrie-Anne Moss!) and
the novels Breathers and The Changed.
