Review - I'll Stop The World - Lauren Thoman

Review: I'll Stop The World - Lauren Thoman - April 2023 Scrolling through the Kindle, I clicked on I'll Stop the World by Lauren Thoman. I didn't know what it would be like, but once I started reading it - I was captivated and it reminded me of that new movie named Totally Killer where the girl goes back in time to stop a serial killer from killing off her mum's friends. In I'll Stop the World, Justin has lived with no motivation and is an angry kid. The school is also named after his grandparents who died in a fire back in 1985. The town expects great things from him, but he isn't showing any promise. That is until he finds himself going back in time to 1985 - the week leading up to the accident that killed his grandparents and left his mother an orphan. Stuck in 1985, a world Justin doesn't know - can he maneuver around in it and save his grandparents from death? Will he be able to get back to the present time or will he be stuck in 1985 forever and grow...

"From Finding Alice to Crank: How Banning Books Hinders Our Ability to Learn and Grow"

Image
As a book blogger and literature enthusiast, I am vehemently against the banning of books. It is a dangerous practice that undermines our fundamental right to freedom of expression and deprives us of the opportunity to explore diverse perspectives and ideas. Living in New Zealand, I am grateful that the banning of books is not a rampant issue, as it is in many other countries. However, this is not to say that we should become complacent or turn a blind eye to the dangers of censorship. We must remain vigilant and stand up against any attempts to restrict access to information and literature. For me, reading has always been a form of escape and a source of knowledge. Growing up in a Christian household, certain topics were considered taboo and were not discussed openly. It was through books and authors like Melody Carlson and Ellen Hopkins that I was able to find answers to some of the more challenging questions that I had about life and the world around me. Their books, such as Findin...

Phantom Paragrapher Rants - Why We Should Support Second-Hand Book Sales

Image
Why We Should Support Second Hand Book Sales !!! As a society, we often prioritize consumerism over sustainability. We are constantly being sold the latest and greatest products, and we are encouraged to buy new things rather than making use of what we already have. This mindset can be seen in the way that we approach books. Many people prefer to buy brand new books rather than purchasing second-hand copies. However, this attitude is causing a significant amount of waste, and it is having a detrimental impact on the environment. That's why we should all support second-hand book fairs, especially since the majority of the books that don't sell end up in the rubbish dump. Second-hand book fairs are an excellent way to give new life to old books. These events provide a platform for people to sell their gently used books, allowing others to purchase them at a fraction of the cost of a new book. By buying second-hand books, you are not only saving money, but you are also helping to...
