Review: The Flatmate - Gemma Rogers

Review: The Flatmate - Gemma Rogers - June 2023 There's something deeply unsettling about grief mixed with suspicion, and Gemma Rogers captures this toxic combination perfectly in The Flatmate. This psychological thriller grabbed me from the first page and didn't let go until the final, shocking revelation. The story centers on Ria, whose world shattered when her best friend Livvy died from a drug overdose at a work event. But Ria knows something the rest of the world doesn't—Livvy would never have taken drugs willingly. Someone is responsible, and Ria is determined to find out who. After a five-month sabbatical trying to process her grief and suspicions, Ria returns to work only to find that Amanda, her new flatmate, has seamlessly slipped into every space Livvy once occupied—both at home and in the office. It's unsettling, to say the least. What makes this thriller particularly chilling is the psychological warfare that unfolds. Ria begins receiving messages suppos...

Review: Maybe Not - Colleen Hoover

Review: Maybe Not - Book #1.5 Maybe Series - Colleen Hoover - November 2014 It has been a while since I read the story Maybe Someday with the introduction of Ridge and Sydney and the mismatched characters that flat together in the apartment. When I read this book, I fell in love with Ridge and Warren. They were two of my favourite characters as Ridge was just a sweet deaf boy and Warren was the untouchable fun bad boy. The girls were Sydney who was the girl that Ridge saved and would eventually become his girlfriend, Maggie who is Ridge's current squeeze, and Bridgette who was the hard chick and one of those high-maintenance females with an attitude to boot. I didn't like Bridgette as she is the type of female I would normally avoid in real life. Maybe Not is the enemies-to-lovers love story between Warren and Bridgette. The unlikely duo who don’t do dating and emotions but somehow work well together and eventually will become a couple. If you are looking for a quick read and...

VBT # Review: Work in Progress - Staci Hart

Review: Work in Progress - Staci Hart - January 2019 Though this book can be read as a standalone, it is part of what is called The Red Lipstick Club as we are reunited with our group of favorite flatmates from Rin, Val, Katherine, and Amelia. Work in Progress is Amelia's story.  I have to admit; I love this series as I feel connected in one way or another with all the characters from Rin being into Art to Katherine whom the next book will be working in a library to Amelia whom this book is about being a book blogger like myself. I loved this book which in a way I knew I would as I have not found a Staci Hart book that I haven't in one way or another enjoyed. My only qualm is that the Thomas Bane on the cover here is not how I imagined him as I hate guys with long hair, it just doesn't do anything for me, and the guy on the cover looks more like a greasy rockstar rather than a writer hottie. Amelia is the type of girl whom being introverted was coin...

Review: Don't Talk, I Love You - Shannon McCrimmon - June 2017 If you are looking for a YA/NA crossover but a clean version, then this is the read for you as you will fall in love with the characters and the story as I did. In this book, we meet Hadley who has just graduated and got her first job working for a PR Firm. Currently, though it's time to move out of the home and she answers a strange ad on Craiglist. Three Monks who are taking a vow of silence are looking for a roommate to make sure they all commit to their vow. They can, however, communicate via text or email or any written communication. Once Hadley arrives, she is taken by the three Monks Auggie, Sherman, and Denny. Though as we can see from the beginning and more so down the track in the story, it is Denny who has captured her heart also. Without giving too much away and the ending, which by the way was perfect and shows us that Karma does exist and if you are a mean spirited pers...
