Review: Lumberjanes - Book #5 - Various Contributors - June 2026 There's a particular kind of comfort in opening a Lumberjanes book  it's the comic equivalent of walking into your childhood bedroom and finding everything exactly where you left it, except somehow even more delightful than you remembered. Volume 5 (collecting issues #49–60) is no exception, and honestly, it might be one of my favorite helpings of camp chaos yet. April, Jo, Mal, Molly, and Ripley are back, and as always, the world refuses to let them have a normal week. Between navigating underground labyrinths, getting swept up in a board game with actual magical stakes, and accidentally waking up an ancient Greek goddess (you know, typical Tuesday stuff), this volume packs in enough adventure for three ordinary book series. And yet nothing ever feels rushed or overstuffed ,  it all unfolds with that easy, breathless energy the series has perfected, where the absurd and the heartfelt sit side by side without m...

Review: Lumberjanes - Book #4 - Various Contributors - April  2026 There are some series that you enjoy, and then there are those series that feel like coming home and for me, Lumberjanes is absolutely one of those. In fact, I can safely say that this is my favourite graphic novel series ever! So, you can imagine how excited I was when I was lucky enough to receive a copy from Boom! Studios. Lumberjanes – Book #4 collects issues #37–48 and takes us straight back to the wonderfully weird and magical world of the Roanoke Cabin scouts. Just when you think things might finally calm down for our favourite campers, summer decides to throw even more chaos their way. From family visits and mysterious voices in the woods to strange time loops and, of course, a jackalope hunt with consequences nobody could have predicted, there is never a dull moment at camp. One of the things I love most about Lumberjanes is that, underneath all the magical mayhem, mythical creatures and completely bizarre ...

Review: The Last Boy - Various Contributors - February 2026 Oh, this one got me right in the chest I'll be honest when I settled into my reading chair with a cup of tea and cracked open The Last Boy, I wasn't entirely sure what to expect. Peter Pan reimaginings are a crowded space, and my inner child was feeling a little protective. You see, Hook has been a comfort film of mine for as long as I can remember. Robin Williams' Peter Banning rediscovering his inner Pan is the kind of story that wraps around you like a favourite blanket, and any new take on this world has some very big boots to fill in my heart. But within a handful of pages, I'd completely surrendered to it. Writer Dan Panosian has done something genuinely brave here. He's taken the boy who never grew up and asked the question nobody really wants to answer what if he has to? Peter is still clinging to Neverland's golden days like they're a life raft, while the world around him quiet...

Review: The Last Witch - Fear & Fire - Various Contributors - September 2021 There’s something rather magical about discovering a new fantasy world that instantly pulls you in  the kind where you can almost imagine curling up with the book on a rainy New Zealand afternoon, a cuppa in hand, and letting the story whisk you away. The Last Witch, a young adult fantasy graphic novel collecting issues #1–5, is exactly that sort of adventure: mysterious, atmospheric, and filled with heart. At the centre of the story is Saoirse, a brave and slightly reckless young girl who lives in a village where the terrifying witch known as the Cailleach hunts children once a year. Instead of hiding away like everyone else, Saoirse sees the annual hunt as the perfect chance to rebel against her father and uncover the secrets hidden within the witch’s tower. Of course, as many fantasy heroes learn the hard way, curiosity can be both a gift and a curse. When Saoirse and her brother Brahm are captured ...
