Review: Dig Two Graves - Gigi Johnston - September 2024 I'll be honest with you, dear readers, I finished this book at 1am, wide awake, silently cheering for a killer. That's not something I say often, but Dig Two Graves earns it. Gigi Johnston opens with a premise that guts you before the story even gets going: two children, a boy and a girl, trapped in a children's home that was supposed to protect them and instead became the place that broke them. The boy escapes. Years pass. He comes back  not as a victim, but as a reckoning. One by one, the adults who hurt him start turning up dead, and I found myself flipping pages hoping he'd get to the next name on his list before anyone stopped him. Gigi Johnston has a rare gift for writing vigilante justice that never feels gratuitous, every death lands with weight, but never sympathy for the ones who deserved it. Meanwhile, on the other side of the case, Officers Brady and Jones are doing what good detectives do: followi...

Review: I Dare You - Monica James

Review: I Dare You - Book #1 Ruin Me Duet - Monica James - July 2026 I have to be honest  I was hooked before I even opened the first page. That blurb alone had me convinced this was going to be a 5-star read, and honestly? I love it when a book actually lives up to that kind of hype, because it doesn't always happen. This one did, and then some. The story kicks off with a bang (quite literally)  a popular cheerleader turns up dead, and from there we're pulled into this gripping dual timeline of past and present as we piece together not just who killed her, but who Hallie Holiday really is. We get her before, the girl she used to be, and her after ,  the version of herself she built from the ashes of one brutal night that changed everything. Watching that transformation unfold, layer by layer, was honestly one of my favourite parts of the whole book. Three years on, Hallie is living under a new name, tucked away in a town where nobody knows her history, just trying to s...

Review: The Girl in The Pink Shoes - Book #1 Lucy Kendall Series - Stacy Green - September 2014 Lately, I have been trying to read newer titles and just finding they end up being DNFs as I am not connecting with the story, so I decided to hop onto my Kindle and read an oldie title which was The Girl in the Pink Shoes by Stacy Green. This book is the first in the Lucy Kendall series. Lucy is an ex- DCYFs worker/ social worker who has spent her life helping kids in bad situations, she went to work after her sister was abused and then took her own life. Now years later, she works as a private investigator as well as a vigilante taking matters into her own hands by ridding the world of sexual offenders. That is until her world tips on its axis as this week three things are about to happen - 1) her secret has been discovered as she is being followed by an annoying paramedic who claims to be a sociopath and wants to join forces with her aka Chris Hale, 2) she is being accused of murder by on...

Review: Marrow - Tarryn Fisher

Review: Marrow - Tarryn Fisher - April 2016 For most people, they have only really discovered Tarryn Fisher in the later years with her books The Three Wives, The Wrong Family, and An Honest Lie, or with her collab Never Never with Colleen Hoover.  However, some of us keen readers, first discovered her when she started writing her series The Opportunist which is still one of my favourite series. Like her earlier books, Marrow is still in her vein of those books that are considered dark, edgy, and slightly weird and quirky. Marrow is called the body part "Bone Marrow" and features a few times in the book starting with The Bone House where our main female lead Margo Moon lives with her mum and a revolving door of men. Margo hates her home and calls it The Eating House as it devours your soul slowly till there is nothing less and you are left as a shell of your former self. The suburb is also one of those crackhouse-type ghetto ones where if you are lucky to get out, get out o...
