Review: Break My Rules - Roxy Sloane

Review: Break My Rules - Book #2 Oxford Legacy Series - Roxy Sloane - December 2024

If you've been following along here on the blog, you'll know that I absolutely loved the first book in Roxy Sloane's series, so it's fair to say I was more than a little eager to curl up and dive straight into Book #2, Break My Rules. And oh my goodness, did it deliver from the very first page!

The book opens on a complete OMG moment , the kind that makes you sit up straight and forget your cup of tea is going cold beside you. Tessa discovers that St Clair has the same tattoo her sister described as part of the attack that drove her to suicide. Now, if you read Book #1, you'll remember that no body was ever found, and trust me when I say that little detail becomes very, very important as this story unfolds.

What I loved most about this book is how Roxy Sloane handles the emotional fallout of that discovery. Tessa tells St Clair about the tattoo, and suddenly both of them are completely torn. Tessa loves him , genuinely, deeply  but how can she remain close to someone who may be connected to those who destroyed her sister? It's heartbreaking to read, in the best possible way. Meanwhile, St Clair can see a real future with Tessa, something hopeful and warm, but now he's caught between the friends he has trusted all his life and the possibility of a world with her in it. He simply cannot bring himself to believe that anyone in his circle would do something so horrific to a woman. That internal conflict feels so real and so raw throughout the whole book.

As the story progresses, things get even more layered and complex. We begin to learn that the drug Wren was working on isn't quite as FDA approved or as effective as the St Clair pharmaceutical company has been making it out to be  which adds a whole new dimension of intrigue to everything. And when Wren's boss is killed, it opens your eyes wide and has you asking all the right questions. Does anyone else have that tattoo? Was it someone connected to St Clair who hurt Wren?

Break My Rules ends on a major cliffhanger, the kind that has you immediately reaching for the next book. I am so excited to get into Book #3 and hopefully finally have all my questions answered!
