VBT# We Will Find You - Ian Blackwood

I read this one curled up on the sofa with a cup of tea going cold beside me, because I genuinely could not put it down long enough to reheat it. There's something about a good con-artist thriller that feels like being let in on a secret, and Ian Blackwood hands you that secret slowly, deliciously, one uncomfortable truth at a time.
The setup is deceptively simple: three women, one man, and a lie so well constructed it takes years to unravel. Serena is swept off her feet by Tod yacht, diamond ring, all the trimmings of a fairy tale proposal. As a reader, you know from the title alone that something's off.
That fall comes when Serena shows a photo of her fiancé to her friend Chloe, a gym owner with a past she's never quite spoken about. The colour drains from Chloe's face, and just like that, the floor drops out from under the story. Tod is Tam. The ring is fake. The yacht was never his. Every soft, romantic detail Serena believed in turns out to be a costume.
What I loved most is how Ian Blackwood refuses to make this a simple "woman gets duped" story. Once Uma enters the picture another woman, another version of the same lie the book becomes something richer: a story about women finding each other through the wreckage one man left behind. I also loved how we had the re-introduction of Uma into the story as her brother was for Serena - the one who "got away" as the timing then wasn't quite right and if it hadn't been for Tod's con artist ways, she might never have been led back to Baz.
There's real tenderness in how these three characters start to trust one another, even as the betrayal between them is so raw. It's less a thriller about catching a con man and more a thriller about what happens after, when the people he hurt stop being strangers to each other..
If you like your thrillers with teeth, but also with heart, pour yourself something warm and settle in. We Will Find You is the kind of book you finish in one sitting and then immediately want to talk about with someone.
