VBT# The Dream Family - Lisa Hall

VBT# The Dream Family - Lisa Hall - November 2026
What would you do if you turned up to collect your daughter and she simply wasn't there?
Now, that is a storyline guaranteed to grab my attention!
I absolutely love a good psychological thriller, especially one involving revenge, secrets, and the kind of twists that leave you questioning everything you thought you knew. And The Dream Family by Lisa Hall certainly delivered on all three.
Imagine moving back to the town where you grew up, settling into a gorgeous cottage and starting afresh with your daughter Cora. You have the perfect home, new friends, lovely school mums, coffee dates after drop-off and drinks at the local pub. To the outside world, you are living the dream. After all, you're the dream family, or so your 100,000 followers believe.
But behind those picture-perfect social media posts, something much darker is happening.
It starts with an anonymous message. Then someone gets into the house. Private moments become public, and someone seems determined to expose a past that was never meant to see the light of day. Suddenly, the carefully constructed perfect life begins to unravel. And when Cora disappears, the nightmare becomes every parent's worst fear.
I was hooked by the premise from the very beginning. There is something particularly unsettling about the idea that someone knows your secrets, is watching your every move and is determined to destroy the life you have built. Lisa Hall does a wonderful job of building that sense of unease, keeping the tension simmering while gradually revealing that not everything is quite as it seems.
One of my favourite things about this book was the revenge element. I do love a storyline where the past comes back to haunt the present, and I was busy trying to piece together who was behind everything and why. I had my theories, naturally, but I have to say the ending did NOT go the way I expected. And honestly, isn't that exactly what we want from a psychological thriller? That delicious moment when an author completely pulls the rug out from underneath you.
I also loved the way the story explores the difference between the perfect life we present to the world and what might actually be happening behind closed doors. In a world where social media can make everyone else's life look picture-perfect, this story is a timely reminder that appearances can be very deceiving.
The Dream Family is an addictive, twisty read packed with secrets, suspicion, revenge and plenty of nail-biting moments. If you enjoy psychological suspense that keeps you guessing right until the final pages, this one deserves a spot on your reading list.
Lisa Hall certainly knows how to keep a reader on their toes!
A gripping psychological thriller with a delicious revenge storyline and an ending I genuinely didn't see coming. Just when you think you've worked it all out, think again.
