Review: This Summer Will Be Different - Carley Fortune - May 2024 One of my favorite Canadian authors is Carley Fortune, I love her books as they are based around Summer and the sunshine as well as the love that spans years. They are books that despite the characters not being able to be together, they finally can and they always get their HEA. This Summer will be Different and spans five years between best friends Bridget and Bee. Five years ago when the story begins, the friends headed to Bridget's family house on Prince Edward Island. Bee got there a few days earlier and was given Bridget - three rules and #3 on the list was Do Not Fall in Love with My Brother. While there on her first day, Bee meets a guy named Felix and they have a romantic night together only to discover later that Felix is Wolf - Bridget's brother. Over the next four years, the pair have this on/off relationship as they both decided that Bridget wouldn't be too happy and they both had their own lives...

Review: Only If You're Lucky - Stacy Willingham - January 2024 Today was the perfect weather for reading outside on my porch swing so I decided it was a great time to make a dent into my TBR physical pile and Stacy's book had been sitting there for about a month. I was a little nervous reading it as I hadn't enjoyed All the Dangerous Things. That was a DNF for me. Only If You're Lucky though caught my attention right from the beginning and I think it was mainly to do with the setting of the university housing and college-aged kids. This is one of my favorite themes in books. The book starts with their friend and roommate Lucy missing and Levi is dead. It then jumps back in time to the previous year when Margot is at Rutledge College and sitting on the grass with her roommate Maggie and Margot spots Lucy. She radiates and is the center of attention. She reminds Margot of her now-deceased friend Eliza. At the end of the first year, Lucy invites Margot to be their fourth r...

Review: Check & Mate - Ali Hazelwood - November 2023 After discovering Ali Hazelwood last year and reading her first two books in her The Love Hypothesis series and enjoying them, I was excited to read her YA book Check and Mate. Of course, since it was a Book Shoppe Book Box book, I had to wait for a good time to sit down and read it in one sitting and enjoy the full experience of opening the wee gifts as I went along with the story. Check and Mate introduces us to Mallory Greenleaf who as a child, was a chess prodigy, and her dad Archie Greenleaf who coached her was a Grandmaster. Chess was her life until a series of incidents happened and caused her to stop playing Chess is what she saw as the downfall of her life, it ruined everything. Now a couple of years later, Mallory has been allowed to play chess as a job and earn money which can help pay her family's mortgage and bills especially since her mum is sick and can't work full-time anymore. During this book, Mal...
