Review: A Novel Love Story - Ashley Poston - June 2024

Ever imagined what it would be like to live in the world of your favourite book? Would it get tiresome to relive the same moments over and over again, or would it be like being in heaven? For Eileen, her world last year came crashing down as not only did her favourite author die, Rachel Flowers, her fiance left her for another woman just as they were about to be married. She had been looking forward to her yearly book club week away in a cabin. But then when the other members said they couldn't make it, Eileen decided that she was still going to go anyway by herself. She deserved this. Driving in the rain though, she ends up getting lost in the storm and almost runs over a man at the same time. This leads her to a small town tucked away, one of those blink-and-you-will-miss-it towns. She thinks she will just stay the night until the storm passes but as she settles in - there are little easter eggs that make her feel like she has been here before or in her case -she has read. Somehow Eileen has ended up in the town of her favourite series by Rachel Flowers. Here in town, she meets the grumpy bookshop owner Anders. The thing though is he is the only character she doesn't remember at all. Was he to be the love interest in her unwritten 4th book? The one she died before finishing? Eileen better be careful as her being inside the book, is causing waves between some of the characters and if she isn't careful, she might just end up rewriting some of their stories like the tale of Ruby and Jake. I enjoyed this book, not as much as The Seven Year Slip but was still a great read and gave me Kate and Leopold movie vibes which is still to this day one of my favourite films featuring Meg Ryan and Hugh Jackman.
