Review: Captive Films 2.1 - Jillian Dodd

Review: Captive Films - Book #2.1 - Jillian Dodd - March 2015

When I needed a palate cleanser between heavier reads, I reached for Captive Films 2.1 by Jillian Dodd, and it delivered exactly what I was craving—a fast-paced, drama-filled escape that I devoured in one sitting.

This installment picks up right where the previous book left off, and let me tell you, Knox is making some spectacularly bad decisions. After jumping to conclusions about Ariela (classic Knox), he decides the mature response is to grab his brother and friends for a wild night in Las Vegas to drown his sorrows. Meanwhile, poor Ariela is desperately trying to reach him to explain, but he won't answer his phone. Typical guy move, right? I found myself yelling at the pages, wanting to shake some sense into him.

Of course, what happens in Vegas doesn't stay in Vegas—especially when you're connected to Captive Films. Photos from their debauchery hit the papers, and suddenly everyone is scrambling. Keatyn and Vanessa go into full damage control mode as the board moves to fire Knox, along with JJ and others involved in the company. The mess threatens to unravel everything they've built, with various stakeholders making it nearly impossible for the board to contain the scandal.

Keatyn works her PR magic, spinning the disaster into an opportunity by transforming the scandal into a brand new film project. It's clever, creative, and exactly the kind of solution that reminds you why these characters are so good at what they do.

What I appreciate most about this series is how it scratches that specific reading itch when you want something engaging but not too heavy.

Fair warning though: this book ends on a massive cliffhanger. Just when you think things might resolve, Jillian Dodd pulls the rug out and leaves you hanging. It's simultaneously frustrating and brilliant because you immediately want to grab the next book.

If you're looking for a quick, entertaining read with plenty of drama, romance, and Hollywood intrigue, Captive Films 2.1 hits all the right notes. Just make sure you have the next installment ready to go.
