As a proud bookworm, I’m sure I’m not the only reader who has closed a romance novel and sighed, wishing that book boyfriends could step straight off the page and into real life. You know the type charming, swoon-worthy, and just the right amount of dreamy. Well, in The Book Boyfriend by Karli Perrin, that fantasy gets a cheeky little twist, and honestly, it’s the perfect short read to scratch that romantic itch.

This delightful short story introduces us to Zara Hennessy, a woman who has well and truly had enough of the dating scene. After a string of failed relationships, she’s decided that love just isn’t worth the drama anymore. Fair enough, right? Sometimes it really does feel easier to curl up with a good book than deal with real-life heartbreak.

When Zara agrees to help her sister at the biggest book signing event of the year, she expects a busy day surrounded by authors, readers, and the usual bookish chaos. What she doesn’t expect is to meet Jackson Price  a man whose reputation has already spread like wildfire among romance readers thanks to a book written about him by his ex-girlfriend. Imagine discovering that the man everyone has been swooning over in a romance novel is actually real… talk about every book lover’s dream!

Jackson has travelled to the UK on a working visa, hoping to start a fresh chapter in his life away from the shadows of his past. When he meets Zara, sparks fly almost instantly. The chemistry between them is sweet, natural, and full of that warm, butterflies-in-your-stomach feeling that romance readers adore.

Of course, the universe throws in a little complication  because what’s a love story without one? Zara meets Jackson only weeks before his six-month visa is due to expire. Suddenly, their blossoming connection comes with a ticking clock, and the question becomes whether their story will end with happily ever after… or simply heartbreak.

What I loved most about The Book Boyfriend is how quick, cosy, and utterly charming it is. It’s the kind of story you can read in one sitting with a cup of tea and finish with a big smile on your face. Karli Perrin captures the magic of bookish spaces, the excitement of author events, and the universal fantasy of meeting someone who feels like they’ve stepped straight out of a romance novel.

The fact that the story is inspired by actual events just adds an extra layer of fun. It makes you wonder… maybe book boyfriends don’t only exist in books after all.
