Review: Love and Roses - Suzanne D Williams

Review: Love and Roses - Suzanne D. Williams - January 2014
You know those moments when you're scrolling through your Kindle, a cuppa going cold beside you, and you stumble across a book you'd completely forgotten was sitting there waiting for you? That was me with Love and Roses by Suzanne D Williams , a little hidden gem tucked away in my library, and I am so glad I clicked on it that day!
I went into this one completely blind, no blurb refresh, no re-reading the synopsis, just diving straight in and honestly, sometimes that's the very best way to read a book.
What unfolded was such a sweet second-chance romance, and I mean sweet in the most wholesome, heartwarming way. We meet Ian, a man who believed he was happily married, until the devastating discovery that his wife had actually hired a hitman to have him killed. Thankfully, that hitman turned out to be an undercover cop , talk about dodging a bullet, quite literally! Ian does what so many of us do when life falls apart he throws himself into his work, channelling everything into his role as a personal trainer at his gym.
Then along comes Allison. A grieving widow whose police officer husband was tragically shot in the line of duty. Carrying both her heartbreak and a few extra pounds from some very understandable grief eating, her friend gently nudges her toward the gym. And that's where the magic quietly begins.
What I absolutely loved about Ian and Allison's connection is that it builds so gently and naturally. Neither of them is looking for love , they're just two wounded souls finding unexpected friendship. But those sparks? You can feel them simmering from early on. When Allison needs an escort to the Police Ball honouring her late husband, Ian steps up without hesitation, and that evening shifts everything.
Will they both be brave enough to take that leap, or will their very different hurts hold them back? You'll have to read it to find out!
This is a beautiful read for those of us who love romance with a little more life experience woven through it - real people, real heartache, and real hope. Sometimes the books we forget we have turn out to be exactly what we needed. 🌹
