The Little Tiger with the Big Temper

Review: The Little Tiger with the Big Temper - Je T'aime Hayr - July 2021

NB- This review is not written with any bias and does not reflect on my knowing the author.

As readers of my site know, I have a soft spot for really good Children's picture books and even more so when they have a good meaning behind the story. I also felt a connection with this book as I have talked to the author several times over the years at one point she was the editor for Gloss Magazine online, and at the time she was editor- I wrote a few articles and reviews for the site. Since leaving the site after she ended her editor role, I followed the author on Facebook and Instagram keeping up with the amazing things she was doing, and then in 2021, I saw that she had written a book for children about mindfulness and meditation. As a mum of two boys herself, she knows all about those tempers that children can have, and at times they can be just like this tiger - bad-tempered and they aren't quite sure how to feel what they are feeling. In this very cute illustrated book as the illustrations are just gorgeous, we meet our little Tiger who is having a bad day, during the book he stomps off and meets a new friend who helps the tiger through some belly breathing exercises and mindfulness/meditation tips to help calm down that temper. This helps the little tiger and he eventually heads home and apologizes to his parents and once again he is their happy little Tiger, rather than a grumpynister.  One of the things I did love about this book which makes it better than your usual picture book is that during the learning pages, the book has tips and explanations, and then at the end, there are more tips and tricks for parents and children. This is such an important topic at the moment for all children, especially since the last few years have been such upheaval with Covid-19 and a different way of life with anxiety in the media, in our communities, and lives.  The Little Tiger with the Big Temper is perfect for children of all ages as even the older one’s aged 10+ can adapt the mindfulness exercises like belly breathing and counting. It is something that everyone can learn from.  This is one book that I highly recommend and should belong in everyone's collection, if not for the story or learning - at least have it for the beautiful illustrations inside.
