Review: Someone Knows - Vi Keeland

Review: Someone Knows - Vi Keeland - June 2025

When I spotted this Vi Keeland paperback at BookHero NZ, I didn't hesitate. It's part of my ongoing mission to Clear my Physical Bookshelf (yes, it deserves capitals—it's that serious), and honestly, I was buzzing with excitement. I've devoured Vi Keeland's romance novels before, so when I heard she'd ventured into thriller territory, I was over the moon. A favorite author trying something new? Sign me up immediately.

Someone Knows ticks several of my boxes right from the start. It's set in a university with a Creative Writing course—a setting I'm absolutely here for—and follows a storyline structure that always hooks me. Twenty years ago, Elizabeth and her friends helped kill their English teacher after catching him hurting and abusing their friend Jocelyn. The secret stayed buried. Until now.

Elizabeth is living her life when she begins reading a manuscript submitted by one of her students. What she finds chills her to the bone: the story mirrors exactly what happened all those years ago, down to the tiniest, most specific details—including that yellow finch bird. Someone knows. But who? And how?

Determined to uncover the truth, Elizabeth makes the trip home, where she's forced to confront not just her past but the memories she's tried so hard to bury. What follows is a taut, twisty thriller that kept me guessing throughout.

Vi Keeland proves she can absolutely nail the thriller genre. The pacing is excellent, the tension ratchets up steadily, and just when you think you've figured it out, she throws another curveball. The ending genuinely surprised me—always the mark of a solid thriller—and I found myself immediately wanting more.

This book has me keen to explore more of Vi Keeland's thriller work. The Unravelling has just shot straight to the top of my TBR pile. If you're a romance reader curious about Vi Keeland's darker side, or a thriller fan looking for something with heart and genuine suspense, Someone Knows delivers on both fronts.

A gripping thriller that proves Vi Keeland's talent transcends genre. Highly recommend.
