VBT# Fear of Flames - Aleatha Romig

Review: Fear of Flames - Aleatha Romig - October 2025
Years ago, I devoured Aleatha Romig's cult thriller series and absolutely loved every page-turning moment. So when I spotted Fear the Flames available through Hambright PR, I practically pounced on it. There's something about Aleatha Romig's writing that just hooks me, and I couldn't wait to dive back into her world. I wasn't disappointed – I tore through this one faster than you can say "one more chapter."
The story opens with protagonist Michelle, who writes thrillers under the pen name D.Valentine. While staying at her father's house, she hears an unsettling noise downstairs. What she discovers is absolutely devastating her father's body and flames about to engulf everything. It's a heart-wrenching, explosive start that immediately grabbed me by the throat.
Enter Fletch, also known as Arrow, who appears seemingly out of nowhere with intimate knowledge of Michelle and her family. In this terrifying moment, Michelle faces an impossible choice: be arrested for her father's murder, become the next victim, or trust this mysterious stranger and flee from police she's about to learn are thoroughly corrupt. Talk about being caught between a rock and a hard place!
As Michelle's nightmare unfolds, she uncovers shocking truths about her parents' hidden lives. They weren't just ordinary people, they were essentially top-secret operatives dedicated to rescuing trafficked children. Now Michelle must decide whether to continue their dangerous legacy or face prison or death at the hands of those who murdered her parents and are determined to silence her permanently.
Aleatha Romig has crafted a tense, emotionally charged thriller that kept me up way too late reading. The pacing is relentless, the stakes couldn't be higher, and Michelle's journey from unsuspecting daughter to someone forced into her parents' shadowy world is absolutely compelling.
And that ending? OMG, talk about a cliffhanger! I'm already counting down the days until Book #2 releases because I absolutely MUST know what happens next. If you love thrillers with heart, family secrets, and enough twists to give you whiplash, Fear the Flames will have you hooked from page one.
