Review: Saving 6 - Chloe Walsh ( Boys of Tommen Series)

Review: Saving Six - Book #3 Boys of Tommen Series - Chloe Walsh - February 2023

You know those books that sit on your shelf, waiting for the perfect moment? The ones you can't just casually pick up during your lunch break because you know—you know—they're going to demand everything from you? That's the Boys of Tommen series for me. These chunky, angsty beauties require full emotional commitment, and Chloe Walsh's Saving 6 is no exception.

This time, we're rewinding to witness Joey and Aoife's love story from their perspectives, and honestly, it's both devastating and beautiful. If you've already met them through Shannon's eyes in the earlier books, prepare for familiar scenes to hit different , harder, deeper, more personal. There's something special about seeing the same moments through new eyes, understanding motivations you could only guess at before.

One of my favourite parts? Watching Johnny and Gibsie spot Joey in that club, completely oblivious that they're meeting their future brother-in-law and perpetual nuisance. It's these little moments of foreshadowing that Chloe Walsh does so brilliantly, making you smile through the tears.

But let's talk about the heavy stuff, because this book doesn't shy away from it. We dive deep into how Joey fell in with Shane's crowd, how addiction became his escape route, and the heartbreaking ways he sacrificed himself for his siblings. We also witness Darren's escape from their toxic family situation.

Growing up in a household that shared some similarities—though thankfully not to this extreme , I felt Joey's struggle in my bones. That exhausting facade of "everything's fine," the crushing loneliness of keeping secrets because speaking up would only make things worse... Chloe Walsh captures this reality with unflinching honesty.

If you're as obsessed with this series as I am, do yourself a favour and check out Rebecca Donovan's Barely Breathing series. It has that same gut-wrenching, emotional intensity that Chloe Walsh does so well.

A word of caution, though: despite the characters being in high school, I'd recommend this series for readers 18-20+ due to the heavy trigger warnings. This isn't light reading , it's the kind that stays with you long after you've turned the final page.

Saving 6 has earned its place on my Christmas break reading list for Book #4. Some books are worth clearing your schedule for, and this series? Absolutely worth every emotional moment.
