Review: Throne of Glass - Sarah J. Maas ( Book #1)

Review: Throne of Glass - Book #1 Throne of Glass Series - Sarah J. Maas - August 2012 2024, is the year I plan to conquer Sarah J. Maas and all her books. Throne of Glass is Book #4 in her reading order as the first three books were the first three titles in her ACOTAR series. For me this particular book, I tried to read back in September 2013 and I could not get into it and at the time rated it 2 stars which was a DNF. Fast forward 14 years and it gets a borderline 4Ps for me as I think due to being invested this time around in her books, I felt more determined to read it and enjoy it as nobody wants to sit there and read a book that they are finding boring and hating. For me, the hardest thing I felt was the fact that I had to work extra hard in separating my universes and characters as I was so used to Feyre, Rhysand, and Tamlin - the world of Fae. In some way, I missed seeing them and felt a bit of sadness as they weren't existing in this book. I did get used to it though as w...

Review: Sinclair - Celia Aaron

Review: Sinclair - Book #0.5 Acquisition Series - Celia Aaron - January 2016 Clearing the Kindle of old books can be an exciting journey as you stumble across gems that you had forgotten about or books that are part of a series you read and you are suddenly reunited with your favourite characters. This series is one of those where the main male characters are villains but also you can't help but fall in love with them as you know that deep down there is some spark of niceness inside of them somewhere, they just need the right person to help them release it. Sinclair is the prequel quick read for the Acquisition series by Celia Aaron. In this book, we read about how Sinclair witnessed the transformation of his mother as she turned into a Sovereign and then the beginning of Stella and how she came to be part of the Vinemont's property with her father's downfall. Like most prequels, Sinclair is a very quick read and one of those books that...

Review: Magnate - Celia Aaron

Review: Magnate - Book #2 Acquisition Series - Celia Aaron - January 2016 One of my goals for 2021 was to try and finally read some of the books that I have had on my kindle for years and Magnate was one of those. Years ago, I read the first book and enjoyed it and got the rest of the series as Celia Aaron is a must-read author for me. For those who need a bit of a recap, our main female character was sold to the Vinemont’s and is their entry into the Acquisition games. Whichever family wins, ends up ruling all the families and being the most feared family until the next games. Stella was signed over to Sinclair but then saved by Lucius but now signed back over to Sinclair as he enters back into the games. The games are rough and tough on the body not to mention the soul and in the second trial which is seen to be worse than the first, there is a new family as participants - her ex-stepmother and stepbrother. Are they here to save her or do they have something worse up their sleeves? I...

Review: Lovely War - Julie Berry

Review: Lovely War - Julie Berry - March 2019 Have you ever picked up a book and it's not normally something you would have read but something just drew you to it and then it surprises you and turns out to be one of the best books you have ever read? For me, that was Lovely War by Julie Berry. I don't normally read historical fiction and books that are set during the war as they just don't normally do it for me but what drew me to this book was the greek mythology aspect. Lovely War starts with Ares and Aphrodite sneaking off to a hotel and having an affair, they are then interrupted by Aphrodite's husband who is putting them on trial for adultery and infidelity. Thus begins Aphrodite's defense where she will tell the two love stories of James and Hazel and Colette and Aubrey. These four characters will encounter ups and downs and at times it will make them think is love worth the pain they feel? Their stories span through both World War 1 and World War 2. Along t...
