Stella Steckler has just returned home and is ready to take her spot and try and beat her record and win back the scholarship after an incident caused her name to become blacklisted and have her dream college in jeopardy as no one wants someone with bad publicity attached to them. Especially when she was in the right and accused of something that she didn't do. However, Stella's personality isn't the greatest for people to look at her in a positive light as she's not your sunshine and rainbows high school student. Stella and her sister Ellie are champion runners and Stella is in the lead this year until a newcomer who is at Stella's level comes to town Mila. Twenty years ago, a serial killer hit the town of Edgewater which is nicknamed to the rest of the world as Deadwater. The killer's targets were champion runners and when Mila disappears, the town is worried the killer has either come back or their eyes are set on Stella doing something to her as she felt intimidated. Of course, automatically jump to the conclusion that the town's troublemaker did something. Now it's up to Stella and Mila's best friend from her hometown Naomi to find out what happened and who killed Mila before Stella ends up behind bars as someone is determined to frame her.
