Review: Love Unwritten - Lauren Asher

Review: Love Unwritten - Book #2 Lakefront Billionaires - Lauren Asher - June 2024
I'm finally catching up on my July 2025 review writing and I had to close out the month with another Lauren Asher masterpiece. As someone who absolutely devoured the Dreamland Billionaires series, discovering that Lakefront Billionaires had even the tiniest crossover was all the excuse I needed to dive headfirst into this world again. And just like with Dreamland, I'm completely hooked and already counting down the days until Book #3.
Let me be honest – at first glance, Love Unwritten is intimidating. These chunky contemporary romances seem to be the trend lately, and while I sometimes worry about pacing, Lauren Asher has this magical ability to make you forget you're reading 400+ pages. Before I knew it, I was completely lost in Rafael and Ellie's story.
The setup initially feels familiar – grumpy billionaire single dad meets his son's nanny – but Lauren Asher elevates this trope beautifully. Rafael and his son Nico captured my heart immediately, especially as we learn about Nico's progressive vision loss due to a genetic disorder. Ellie (Eleanor) isn't just any nanny; she's someone who genuinely cares for Nico and happens to have harbored a high school crush on Rafael years ago.
What absolutely destroyed me was watching Ellie get fired after a promise leads to Nico getting hurt. The injustice of it all had me wanting to throw the book across the room (in the best way possible). But this is where Lauren Asher's character development truly shines – Ellie's journey from someone accustomed to being hurt to someone learning to advocate for herself resonated deeply with me.
The second-chance aspect when Rafael inevitably wants Ellie back creates delicious tension. Will she return immediately, or will she make him grovel? I won't spoil it, but Lauren Asher's handling of their reunion satisfies on every level.
Beyond the romance, this book tackles themes of justice and self-worth that feel incredibly relevant. The message that wealth doesn't give anyone the right to treat others poorly, and that true worth isn't measured in bank accounts, elevates this from simple escapist fiction to something more meaningful.
Now I'm impatiently waiting for Lorenzo and Lily's fake marriage romance in Book #3. If you haven't started this series yet, what are you waiting for?
